Is this normal?

I have got a note on my dash saying Side Air Bag off. I was at a stop lights and it lite up on me. When i started to drive it turned off on me. That was the first time that this has occured. Oh yea one more question this has happened to me like 3 times.. i get my passenger site note up next to the radio that lights up the word "Passenger Side Air Bag." or something i dont remember exactly.. it was occasionally that it happens.. is this normal or should i call the dealer service and ask whats up?

Sorry for my vague description it might be incorrect they way i put it.

maybe it has something to do with that pinched wire Airbag recall.

There's a sensor that measures the weight on the passenger seat, if it thinks the person sitting there is a kid based on their weight it'll turn off the airbag. I guess your sensor is messed up. One time I was carrying a TV and it thought it was a kid, stayed lit and then the seatbelt chime kicked in - my tv forgot to fasten its seatbelt, lol.

This has happened to me a few times when I've placed my backpack on my passenger seat. Had about 30 pounds worth of books in there...

Had that before, it's gotta be the sensor. Airbag was off when I had my backback in it.

Later I had a huge box of stuff I was uhh...."returning" to an ex. My car wanted it to fasten its seatbelt too, haha.

Its normal. The side airbag warning is because the car disabled the side impact airbag because it thought that there was something in the airbags planned path.

Why would it turn-off on a certain weight? I thought airbag is suppose to be safe for all ages?

The dealer puts clamps down so the wire doesnt rub and it took the dealer 3 hours to do this!!!

If you had something heavy on the passenger seat and the seat belt wasn't buckled in, then the light will come on. If you didn't have anything on that front seat and the light came on, bring it in for warranty repair...you may have faulty wiring.

Why is it that if you have something in the seat, sometimes the airbag light on the dash comes on and sometimes the airbag light on the instrument panel comes on...what are the differences between the two?

I know what your talking about, the one in the cluster not the little airbag off light.
It's happeneed to me, I figured it out.
If I lean on the seatback on the left or right (lean on the side with no pressure on the center seatback) it'll light up.
I've had it happen a couple of times.

Noway man. Read the warning on the backside of your sun visor. Something along the lines of children under 12 can be seriously injured or killed by an airbag.

I thougth that it was common knowledge that kids can't ride in the front seat of an airbag equipped car?
