I've noticed that sometimes when I start my '07 si I get a wierd sound. It is usually when the car is cold. It kind of sounds like someone rapping their fingers against a wash board. I can't really describe it in any other way. It doesn't do it all the time. Does anyone else have this?

Yes I've 07 civic and it does the same noise as you've described twice now. The noise sound like something need to be lubricated. So far it's only happen in the morning. I think I'll bring it into the shop to have a look. Will post back once I found out what the problem is.

Yeah, I have the same problem too. Really pathetic because I have driven a Toyota which has basically no motor oil in the engine and it starts without any weird or annoying sounds, it just starts and starts quickly.
The biggest and most common problem is engine shaking after startup, however it completely goes away when you drive the car. Recently, I have experiencing a squeaking sound during startup. It's just sad that this happens to a Honda engine. I mean, I read about this crap which happens to new VW's and I wouldn never imagine that it would happen to a Honda engine. I'm expecting a MASSIVE Honda engine recall for our Civics. Just watch for it. The engines will probably not last for a long time. I spoke to the service guy at the dealership and he said it's normal because of the spinning flywheel. I think it might be a poor assembly issue and whoever produced the engines probably miscalculated some measurements. I have spoken to people who driven older Civics, I have driven older Hondas and never experienced this problem before. I have driven a friggin' 1994 Dodge Neon with over 200,000 kilometers and yeah, the engine shakes during startup with some squeaking, I can imagine that... but with a new Honda Civic.... ahhh... it's just sad!!! |

Yep, this was something that was happening to me on my 06 Civic that I traded in this time last year. Less than a 1,000 miles and my friend who has owned 2 Civics and currently has an 02 Civic was driving the car for me noticed this too. Said he has never heard ANY car make such a strange sound at start up.
Since I had numerous suspension problems from delivery which took three attempts to fix, he said just to ignore it. I had already had too many serious safety issues to address and fix before I traded. This was just one more thing.... Hopefully it's no big issue....but NOT normal for sure. |
