i haven't personally hydro-locked my car, but my buddy did hydro-lock his 2001 civic ex. ironic thing was he had a short-ram intake. anyways, he ended up having to replace the pistons and rods in 2 of his cylinders. so if you're driving around an area where there's a lot of rain or deep puddles, you might want to consider buying a bypass valve.

To hydrolock an engine you would need to submerge your intake in water. Its extremely hard to hydro lock any type of motor from an RC car to a lawnmower to a full 4 stroke truck engine.

If you are slammed to the ground, dont run fender wells to protect from mudd, water and splashing, use a conical filter that is not oiled. in 2 feet of water you could very well suck up some water, but even at that point its a stretch it would pull enough water up all that piping

I think as long as the filter is not submerged then you are alright. If you know the rainy season is hovering around, you can always remove the filter and lower intake tube, and run a short ram.

I've done it.
I was living in Houston, came off the freeway and the water was about a foot high.It was instant, the motor stop.
Now, this was in Houston. It can drop 3 or 4 inches of rain an hour.
It was dark and raining, couldn't be avoided.
It was not a Honda. but the intake is in the same spot and height.
I don't think the bypass will help.
If you live in a flood prone area (Houston, Seattle ect.)
Becareful.

You could also just not put an intake on the car, for god sakes you dont make any noticable horsepower or torque, you just make noise

Get the CAI. It's very well protected by the bumper. I've had mine for about 7k miles and not one problem and I've driven in some pretty heavy rains. Just stay out of deep water and you'll be fine. The water would have to be at least 5 inches deep to even touch the filter

I live in Vancouver and we have gotten way to much rain this year, I have the Injen CAI installed and so far (knock on wood) no issues.
