How can I get into the trunk

I have come across a bit of a problem with my 06 EX coupe. My trunk wont open. I have had this happen before but luckily I had the back seats down and could crawl into the trunk to jiggle the release cable and get the trunk to release, however this time the back seats are up and I would like to know how I can get into the trunk. A little more info, when I push the button on my key I hear the trunk release click but the trunk says closed. Also using the manual release (beside the drivers seat) doesnt help. Anyone else ever have this problem? Thanks in advance

I'm assuming that you don't have anything in your trunk such as speakers and what not. Have you tried slamming it "more shut" to see if the latch has released but something is holding it down? This happened more than a few times with my old Camry.

Thanks - I figured there had to be some type of trunk release in the cabin, just didnt look under the car seat anchor cover to try and find it.

I just encountered the same problem. Since the EX coupe has no outside place to insert a key and there is no rear seat fold down release on the inside, I am baffled. I'll try looking under the child seat anchor cover to engage the release; however, my question is - did you continue to have the problem when you tried to open the trunk later? Did the lock release cable become stretched and have to be replaced? Or did the cable become "unhooked" somehow? What was the final resultion of the problem? I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow for them to look at it, but any help would be appreciated.

Try this. have someone pull and hold the manual release lever up while you go over to the trunk and push it more closed firmly with your palms. This will take any pressure off the latch which should release it if the cable just isn't tight enough.

when it's open tighten the cable a bit (if that's possible)

Just to follow up - the dealer was able to get my trunk open. Not sure how. I suspect they took the back seat apart. I tried to access the seat release lever through the child seat anchor opening, but couldn't even see the relaese (its a tiny, hard to reach opening).

However, the moral of the story is be careful when putting large items in your trunk. Because the trunk latching assembly is open to the trunk (not covered by a panel) it is easy for a large item (in my case a laundry basket) to foul the latch mechanism.

All's well that ends well though.

Me and Dan had to deal with this when we forgot to re-attach the cable release for the trunk popper to gadalas civic. No popper = very suckage.

I had this problem with my 93' sentra SE-R.

I ended up having take the back seat off to get at the trunk, but there was this stupid piece of "frame" in the way, which i decided to crawl under.

I had a factory woofer under there that made the squeeze tight....too tight.

Long story short after being wedged halfway in my trunk, halfway in my back seat for over an hour, my girlfriend got curious and came outside and was able to rescue me.

I got it fixed by a mechanic :)

my first civic, bought in jan '07, didn't have any covers in the trunk hood. but my second civic, bought in sept '07 has a cover under the trunk hood made from the same material that covers the bottom of the trunk. maybe honda did do something about it in the second batch. but then again my first civic was an LX and the second one is an EX, dunno if that makes a difference.

edit:
i couldn't find any release mechanism under the latch covers either, any more info on that?

Mine is an 06 EX Coupe - no panel covering the lock/release assembly. A relative has an 07 EX sedan which does have the panel covering the assembly. Maybe Honda fixed this for the 07 year? I wish I knew how the dealer got in there to fix it so I can do it myself if the problem happens again.

Of course the whole issue may have been avoided if they put a keyed lock on the trunk of the EX coupe.

i've been paying more attention to other civics and i've noticed that some coupes have the keyhole and some don't. i'm assuming that honda put a keyhole for the '07 models.
