Strange noise around 2.5k

2006 LX Sedan.

The 2.4k - 2.6k range seems to be the magic #. It doesn't matter what gear I'm in.

As soon as I approach it my car starts making an electric-sounding noise. It's hard to explain...kind of like the noise a transformer makes when you walk past it? Or that high-pitched noise you sometimes hear on TVs when they're on? Don't know...I'm afraid that's the best I can do as far as describing it. If I turn the radio up pretty loud I can drown it out, but at normal volumes the noise can still be heard over it.

Anyway, the noise has been happening for a long time, but it used to be random. Now it seems to be settling down into a fairly consistent pattern. It doesn't happen every time I drive, but I'd say around 75% of the time. When I take the car out, it's either happening every time or not at all.

Any ideas?

I would bring it into the dealership and have it documented immediately. Even if they don't find anything, a report has been documented and you may be able to refer back to it if anything were to happen in the future.

Anywho, there have been some reports (more or less with the Si) regarding a little whining noise or engine noise at certain RPMs, but my '06 LX sedan doesn't do that.

Thanks for the advice. I mentioned it to them once when I took it in for an oil change, but since it wasn't something I could easily replicate at the time they never had a chance to diagnose it. Hopefully now they'll be able to figure something out.

The problem, of course, is that I can't really be without my car for any extended period of time thanks to work.

Is the noise coming through your radio or it's when the radio is off?

Still happens with the radio off. That was my first thought, since the noise sounded "electrical" to me.

I have the exact same kind of noise. It sounds like a turbo wine sometimes. My dealer can't replicate it, I can't either on demand... It happens when the car wants to...

Are you sure this isnt the timing chain. Timing chains make a wurr and whistle is they arent lubricated correctly.

A proper lubricated timing chain should make no noise or a slight whine. The dealership definitely wont wanna pull the engine. Keep taking it back and documenting it.

Is there no specific RPM range that it happens at?

Sorry about the late answer. I was out of town.

Not really for the RPM range.. in the 3000++ up to 6500. At low RPM I never heard it.
