I don't know, but I'm starting to get irritated by the problems plaguing my 06 Si. I've had it for 6 months and have driven it for only about 3500 miles. It seems as though my Si is plagued by a multitude of problems.
Let's see, first was the emergence of the 3rd gear grind. At first I thought it was due to driver error (since this is the first manual transmission I have driven) and blamed it on myself. Ever since then, I've tried a variety of different shifting patterns from 2nd-3rd. I tried shifting faster, I tried shifting slower, I began even shifting into neutral, letting it center, and then shifting straight up. Currently I shift incredibly slowly from 2nd to 3rd and still get an occasional grind (read: revs have enough time to go from 4000RPM to 1500RPM, and I have the rev hang issue like we all do). Then came the 2nd gear grind which now happens frequently (always happens at least once on a 10 minute drive). Recently, I've had a pinging noise coming from the rear of my car whenever going over bumpy roads. I remember reading somewhere that there was an issue with earlier Si's regarding problems with the rear suspension which made it "ping" when going over bumps. Other issues include a rattling subwoofer. The greatest part is that the service department that I took it into two weeks ago claimed that they could not replicate the transmission issues I was having with the car (big surprise I know!). They said that they found nothing wrong with the suspension and instead attributed the "pinging" noise to a loose spare tire which they tightened. The best part was that they said the subwoofer rattle was normal when listening to music at high volumes (I guess a volume level of 6, which is the max volume I ever use to listen to my CDs, is high. I guess the Si must have some explosive sound levels since it reaches 30? I wouldn't know since I've never gone anywhere near that high). I guess what set this post off was the fact that today, when driving to get a quick bite to eat, I had - 1st gear become difficult to engage from neutral - 2nd gear grind right after that - 3rd gear grind a few minutes after that (and yes, I even checked where I had the clutch and it was as far down as it could go). - While driving over a bumpy section of road, had that pinging noise come from the rear again. I guess I better go tighten that spare tire again. Perhaps I will check the transmission fluid level in my car sometime in the summer (since I park my car in a school parking lot, I can't do it here). I'll try the highly regarded "new" Honda MTF and see if that fixes things up. Needless to say, if these problems still persist, I'm starting to think it's time to look for a new car and trade this one in. |

You should try going to the dealership again and tell them to drive it more than 5 miles there not going to find any problem a that short of a test drive, you may want to also try to see if a service guy will go with you so you can drive untill the trans messes up.
try that |

this might be just me... but has anyone ever had this thought come into your mind...
you find a problem in the car try to get the dealer to fix it, but remarkably they find nothing wrong with the car... heres my thought: "maybe they know exactly whats causing it, but it may be too troublesome to fix, so they chalk it up in either a bs chat with you, as everything is A ok? |

There was a used 06 Silver SI, I saw yesterday at a Toyota dealership. I agree about the service department though the only reason they "cant duplicate the problem" is because it would be too much "work for them to fill out" the stuff. Front Range Honda the dealer I bought my 06 EX at,their service department is "ok" but they didn't fix what needed to be fixed. I have a huge dash gap on the passenger side that I told them to fix and they didn't,so i have to take it in again. This time they better fix it. Then the glovebox was not lining up properly and they overnighted a new glovebox and installed it. They also drilled a hole for the front plate in my bumper they have yet to fix that either!

I dunno who the hell you've been talking to about Honda's new "highly regarded" MTF but don't even bother using it (it's still shit). Use Amsoil or GM MTF. Your transmission issues should be solved. The three dealerships closest to me don't even use Honda's MTF anymore. They stock Amsoil and GM Syncromesh.
As for your rattling issues, I hate to break it to you, but you own a first year vehicle. That should've been expected "minor" annoyances like that. The reason it's becoming a "major" annoyance, is because your crappy-ass service department hasn't fixed it yet. I say find another one. |

^agreed. I worked at the dealership as a mechanic, then a Service Advisor. Many times customers are simply blown out the door because the problem is too hard to locate, or too difficult to fix. The REAL deal with the transmissions is, frankly, for issues like the gear grinding thing, we don't want to be held responsible when Honda of North America sends us a letter letting us know that "we're sorry, but we didn't find anything wrong with the transmission you just warrantied. The dealership is gonna EAT the cost on this one" and your boss comes running in with that WTF!!! look on his face... This fear is what is keeping your trans problem from getting fixed. I have the 3rd gear grinding problem on my car. I am NOT taking it to the dealership for it. it won't get fixed. The suspension thing? HA! The tech sees this on the repair order, says "wait, so, honda is gonna pay me .3 hrs to test drive the car, then .3 hrs to fix the problem... that equals $8.... BUT, i have an '01 accord with a blown transmission on the schedule today that pays 9.6 hours... what do I do? Spend 2 hours locating a suspension squeek, or blow it out the door and work on the accord? Tough choice. I think you know exactly what he is going to do. Just MY 2 cents.

You also need to put yourself in the service tech's shoes. A 5 mile test drive is pretty standard to see if there is a problem. You'd be pissed if he put on 30+ miles wouldn't you? If it takes longer than 5 miles before you (the car owner) sees the problem you should let the service tech know that. |

Sorry to hear about your problems.
My 06 LX sedan is also plagued with a myriad of problems. Going back for the 5th time but to a new dealership with Honda Corporate Car involved not to mention bringing along all the TSB's for my car. Hope you get it all sorted. If my problems can't be fixed after giving them to TSB's I am trading. |

I am not complaining that they only test drove the car for 5 miles. I believe it is a reasonable distance to notice that 2nd and 3rd gears do not engage properly. I'm most likely going to try another dealer or two once I get back home over the summer.

My manual LX has buttloads of issues too...
I just got a CEL light on, so I have to make an appointment this week. Some of my problems included: bent center console, it was curving up and wouldn't stay flat down. Had a CEL come on after driving the car for a 100 miles right after I got it. My radio wouldn't turn on at one point. And the biggie: The entire powersteering unit was leaking from multiple points. They replaced the entire thing. But I think that is just ridiculous. |
