Question About oil?
I know that this have been talked in other threads but this is an Venezuelan oil thread (tropical thread).
Yesterday i did my first oil change (5000 Km). I have some questions: 1) They used 5 liters of oil but in the manual said that with oil filter it would take 3.8 liters. How many liters a civic lx at (r18) use. 2) They use 5w-50 syntetic oil (i ask for 5w-30, but they told me that this was the oil grade for my city). Here in Maracaibo the lowest temp is 35 degrees celcius and the highest is 40 degrees. Do i have to flush the oil? Thanks for all. |

It takes whatever is stated in the manual. Excess oil can cause pressure on gasket, causing them to leak prematurely. I think 5W50 is a bit on the thick side. Do they even make that grade range? Never seen it before. I would stick with 5w20 seeing how you are in colder climate. |

5w20, or 30 should be okay. 50 is a bit thick for the tolerance that Honda runs. Anybody else. Last edited by Kidekat; 01-13-2007 at 10:29 PM. |

That would be 95F to 104F for those that need a conversion.

it will not damage your car. But your gas milage and horsepower will suffer since you put thicker oil. |

My first response is to use what the manual says. The engineers designed the motor and what needs to be run in it.
But if you had your oil changed at an authorized Honda Dealership I would contact Honda's Main Office (maybe send an email) and let them know your situation. If they say it's OK then your set. I would definitely keep my receipt. |
