free oil change at the dealership
I know, someone had a post like this before, but i didnt pay attention to it. now im stuck in the same problem..haha. well, i had my first oil change yesterday and used my free oil change coupon they gave me. They put in 5w-20 in my Si and the manual says to use 5w-30..will anything in performance wise happen to my car? just wondering. Also, what is the difference? thanks.

i asked the dealer if i could bring synthetic for them to use and he said "if you want you can, but we use 5w-20 and thats good enough" although, that was a while back, my memory could be jogged and it does get really boring... i wonder if they actually do what they say they do. |

My dealership did the same thing. I brough it back to them and complained. They told me it would be fine. I told them that the manual says 5W-30, They always use the manual as a bible if we haev questions. My dealership changed it and I watch the mechanic get the oil from the back room and watched him put it in. I would take it back and tell them you want the right oil. It seems petty but its the principle behind the matter

but if you think about it, why not? its your car, all they are doing is the work... so instead of them using their oil, they could just use the one you bring them. although, i believe the price you pay INCLUDES the oil they use plus labour, and just cause you bring your own oil doesn't mean they'll lower the price. but who knows, doesnt hurt to try! |

lol you guys are making this bigger then it really is... the r18 engines should run fine with 5w-20. It's not like they're putting in turbo oil in your r18s.
If everyone really has a deal with what oil the dealers put in, bring your own. If your civic ever breaks down you can sue them for putting in the wrong oil.

but yeah, then you gotta go through the sueing part, and then finding a new car... etc although I wouldn't mind a brand new civic all over again haha |

I don't know about the Si, but my 2001 Odyssey, 2002 CRv, 2007 Fit, & 2007Civic LX all recommended 5w20. I can't believe the Si is different, and I don't think it will make a "hill of beans" difference for one oil change. Just be clear what you want next time, or do it yourself.

The techs that fill up your oil check the engine bay before putting the oil in. I spoke to the person that changed my oil at the dealership. He happened to be Honda nutt. The default oil is the 'wrong' oil for the Si. That is what is printed on the reciept, but the techs don't go by that, they go by whats under the hood.
