TSB for 3rd gear

Ive been browsing this and other fine Si forums. This is my first honda civic (si) and I have no complaints other than the god damned 3rd gear. When shifting fast i usually get a little grind into 3rd but today i shifted from 2nd to 3rd at redline and its like the shifter was bouncing out of the gate and I couldnt get it in at redline. Is there a TSB out for 3rd yet?!

Not that I know if, but you could try changing the MTF prematurely and see if that helps. There's talk that what comes from the factory is overfilled and not the best MTF.

Its all over the net, this forum, Acura forums, but you have to know what you are looking for. Read, read, read. Then believe. You have found the souce of the information you seek, and the result will blow you away.

Your (permanent) solution, if you still have low miles (say less that 10K), is to change the Honda MTF to a GM product (yeah, I didn't believe it either, but again, read, read, read) called Syncromesh with Friction Modifier. Did it in mine, and 3rd gear is smooth, and back with a vengence. After 3rd, my 5th started to show similar behavior, and now all gears are smooth. Read, read, read, and then you will believe what I (am preaching) because the lord (new fluid) is truely our savior.

I s you not! I hope this help you, because it sure did me, and now I can truely say, I love this damn Si. Love it.

I heard Redline MTF also works great, at least on the rsx-s 6 speed for this issue.

I thought honda had an OEM MTF that's syncromesh...

This is an old thread, but it seems up to date otherwise...any thoughts here?

This is not beating a dead horse. This is an on-going issue, and thus, deserves being talked about.

Amsoil is NOT an end-all, be-all solution. It helps, but its not a 100% fixed.
