'07 Si oil question.

I got one of the first 2007 Si's in October. I followed the 600 mile break-in instructions and made a few hard pulls afterwards. I noticed that the oil was all the way down to the add line a day or so later. I thought this was odd, but I didn't let it bother me and I added a quart.
I checked it again at about 1500 miles and noticed that it was low again, so I added almost another quart. I checked it again at about 2800 and I added about another half a quart.
I checked with the dealer where I bought my car and they told me this was normal for K-series engines during the break-in period. I consulted with another dealer who told me that this was not normal at all. I had been adding fully synthetic oil and he said that it may have been the culprit. He talked me into getting an oil change and filter, using the honda synthetic blend. I only had 2,800 on the clock but he said it would be fine, b/c we had to document how much oil it was using. I'm supposed to drive it to the dealer and have them add the oil if it needs it. It hasn't really burned any since though, thank goodness.
My question is this: Was it bad to change the oil before the 5000 mark? I know your supposed to wait, but I figure most of the oil that came from the factory was gone by the time I got it changed. I put over 2.5 quarts in it.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
As I said above, it seems to be fine now. I've put almost 1200 miles on it and the line has barely moved on the dipstick.

I kept the oil in for 5,000 miles, as the manual said. My oil was acceptably low, but still at a decent level when I got my first oil change. It wasn't 100% full, but the oil it burnt dropped it to an acceptable level.

Everywhere I've been, I've been told the K20 burns a bit of oil when its being broken in. As for the other stuff, I am not an expert on this, just letting you know my experience.

If it seems to be fine, that's probably the case. From what I hear, Honda's touted oil isn't all that great, but if it works, go for it (I use it just because I figure it's Honda, they know "best").

Honda has a synthetic blend oil? If it was burning while on full synthetic why didn't they offer to use conventional oil?

It's not bad to change your oil before 5K miles if you've been driven it hard.
I usually go by the oil life indicator.
BTW, how did you check your oil? while the car's running? right after you shut off the engine? After it's been sitted for awhile?

The regular honda oil has some synthetic ingredients. Or at least that's what they tell me. The bottle doesn't say it does though. I'm starting to think most of these honda tech's are a bunch of idiots.

I always either check it when it's cold, or when it's been warm and sitting for 15 to 20 minutes. I always check it on level ground.
