Parking without parking brake (AT)

if my parking brake is not set, moving the shifter from P to R or D makes a weird noise and causes shake. Is there anything wrong here?

The car manual says to set the parking brake before shifting to P. I think most of normal people do not use their parking brakes in AT cars.

If there is any incline I always use my parking brake. Put the car in N, then pull the PB, release brakes, put it in P. Better to let the PB hold the car on an incline then the "thing" that keeps the car in P. my .02

yep. when you do that, your slushbox is holding the car in place instead of your parking brake. Much more wear and tear, much more expensive to fix/replace!

You should always use your parking break (at least with drums in the rear) as the parking brake helps keep the rear drums adjusted should you have an LX, etc.

I use mine once a day and it does the trick. My wife's 05 corolla, if she does not use the parking brake daily, the rear drums get out of adjustment and eventually the pads will not touch the drum when brake applied. This already happened once with her car.

Since she started using it once a day, the rear brakes have not gone out of adjustment and the car stops much better.
