DIY:Valve cover removal + gasket installation

remove the three clips (green), only a white clips/inserts are holding that black cover on the top so u can just rip it gently... enough to unclip the whole thing.also unbolt the intake manifold cover use

use 10mm to remove the 5 bolt (green)holding the heatshield,
use 12mm to remove the 4 bolt (yellow)

then just pull the heatshield

use 10mm to remove the cover.


remove the two 10mm bolts that holding the ignition coil, then unclip the wire connector then pull out the ignition coil.
unplugg the connector(yellow) take the hose out, use 10mm socket to remove the bracket.


use 10mm socket to remove all 6 botls.


take off the dipstick and the oil cap, then remove the 6 metal and rubber washer/gasket using your finger.


simply just pull the valvecover off.

clean the surface and scrape the remaining sealant.


clean the valvecover and put the new gasket, put a sealant on the every side and curvy edge of the valvecover.



installation: reverse the removal for installation.
7.4 ft/lb of TQ on the valvecover bolts.
88.5 in/lb of TQ on the valvecover bolts.

I've taken mine off a few times, thing is a PITA...
you dont need to remove the oil cap btw, just the dipstick

Thanks allot brah, got to change mines, oil is leaking on the front right edge, I found a grayish colored piece of rubber sealant sticking out and oil leaking from it. I am glad to have found this. Thanks.

nice write up. would you guys recomend getting a new gasket i only have 740 miles on the car, im putting my jdm valve cover on this weekend.

nah... just make sure you get the gasket sealant and put it on every edge of the valve cover and make sure you clean/take off the old ones...

I just replaced my stock cover with the jdm one but i tightened the front right valve cover bolt too tight and the bolt snapped. (i applied 7.5 lbs of torque). I was able to barely put it on but without the metal cover thing that goes over the bushing. im afraid that it wont seal right since that one bolt broke off. anyone got suggestions. also how would i even replace it.
