2007 reflash + tranny fix.

Tomorrow (Dec 11) I'm bringing my 07 Si with 800 miles (1200 km) to get reflashed and the tranny 3rd gear fixed.
I am also getting the CD player rattle + skip fixed as well.

Why am I posting this?

I don't know!

I will update tomorrow @ 6pm

Darryl

Talking

I have a severe rev-hang and my throttle response at cruising speeds is nil. This is really dangerous, and a few times now I had to floor the accelerator in order to get through an intersection turning. In the snow, I can't blip my throttle to get out of deep snow. There is NO throttle response whatsoever 4km/h - 10km/h. I ****** hate DBW. PERIOD.

CD player not only skips, but has this annoying springy-sound when 3000-5000rpm occurs, right behind the CD display. 3rd gear is doing its usual BS at mild-normal RPM shifts.

so Honda is going to reflash your car with the same reflash data as the 06's, which were supposedly done on the 07's already... or is it different data?

I was told that the reflash available for the affected 06 civic SI's was simply to bring the ECU up to the 07SI specs. The 07's apparently (from what a fellow owner told me) has very minimal rev-hang issues, equivilent to those whom have the updated or "reflashed" ECU on their 06 si's, like myself.

The 3rd gear grind ive been told from my dealership is "just one of those things" and they couldnt duplicate it on a test drive.

This is the reason why I haven't taken my 07 in to the dealer yet. I figured the 07's already have the updated reflash. My rev hang was only 'bad' the first 400 miles or so. I got about 2000 now and its noticeable better, although still there.

Also, my third gear is ok since i'm careful, but I don't think I can get the problem to occur for the dealer for them to do anything about it. Keep us posted!

If you only have 1200KM on your car, not to bash you, but you have to learn how to drive it. I was in the same boat when I first got my car. I was like WTF......I know how to drive manual but my car was OWNING me big time. Once I got more practice it got better. You just have to adjust your driving style (which sux) to account for the rev hang.

It will be interesting to see what the dealer says though.....

im with zesti on this one.

I also had to "learn" how to drive the car, which sucked but now with 19 xxx on the clock, all is well.

My July built 06 Si, which apparently came with the updated software already, drives just fine for me. Sure there is some rev-hang, but I'm used to it now. It's nothing that I would constantly be complaining about and expecting Honda did something about it. I have no tranny issues either.

I'm starting to wonder why some people even bought their Si having had prior knowledge of the rev-hang and tranny issues. Did you owners not test drive the car and notice the issues?

i am having the same problems as the OP

the throttle is COMPLETLY unresponsive

you can be pushing the gas pedal and the rpm will be sitting at idle

this is dangerous as i have also had to mash the gas to the floor to get the car to move

One of the Honda mechanics told me that the RPM hang is in fact there for a reason. the reason for this is due to the increse of RPM range. Lets see how I can explain this a little better, When you floor your pedal it is most likely you are going for the 7800-8400RPM range, if this occurs then you'll step on your cluth and shift. While this is going on, your RPM will not drop as quickly into the lower RPM range. if you reflash then it will drop allot quicker and you'll then are going to get a really good hang of your pedal to keep the RPM from droppin to low in those conditions. It is not a flaw and that is why it was not eliminated on the 07 models. You have the option to reflash though. I am just relaying as to what I was told though.

This is the major concern I am having. I can live with the rev-hang. I've gotten used to that. That is no concern to me. I rev match when I downshift anyways...

The totally unresponsive throttle is DANGEROUS.

I can drive stick, have been for 17 years+ (even before my license). I drive high powered Z06's (505hp), so I can drive manual lol.

i'm just wondering what kinda reflash the dealership is going to provide you with since you have an 07 Si?

I have an 07 and have gotten used to driving the car the minimal rev-hang that we have, but if the can make it better w/ whatever they are going to do w/ your car I want in as well. that is the reason why I am asking about what kinda reflash Honda said they are going to do.

Rev hang on my '07 Si is there and I've gotten use to it, don't like it, but use to it.
On the other hand, I freakin' hate the damm 3rd gear grind, pop-out problem that these trannys have.
Looks like we are not alone on this issue: http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/Comments/548

These trannys were notchy when they were installed on the RSX Type-S'

"Both cars also use a version of the same six-speed manual transmission, which is the only gearbox offered in the Si. The Si's version of the transmission gets a taller 6th for more relaxed highway cruising, and redesigned cones and synchros for reduced shift effort."

and you would have figured Honda would have gotten these syncro's fixed and got this thing right. Hell, my '98 Integra had the smoothest setup I've ever driven, that was with a short shifter and all installed.
Cable shifters suck-ass all by themselves, much less ones that are mated to a notchy transmission.
Come on Honda, get this thing corrected once and for all so we can bitch about silly crap like the lack of door sill protectors from the factory (rant ended).
