Heavy oil residue under the Oil Pan

I was about to do my First oil change and noticed a heavy oil residue under the oil pan. So I decided to take it to the dealer. they told me that they couldn't find any leak and the residue could be from when they were manufacturing the car and some oil spilled on the oil pan. Why is it that I never get an explanation from the dealership that makes sense????
Another futile trip and a waist of time at the dealership.

I had received a bulletin from the dealer a couple months ago stating that they wanted to check my rear main seal to verify there are no leaks. They didn't find anything on my car, but not sure if they did find anything on someone elses. However, I am not sure how close the rear main seal is to the oil pan.

I think the dealer gave you a crap excuse because they couldn't figure it out. I would be leary for awhile and monitor your oil levels. If it doesn't go down, then you are probably okay.

Its an EX Coupe. The residue was on the bottom of the oil pan only and they couldn't find any signs of leak from anywhere else. Do you still think that it could be the rear main seal? where exactly is the rear main seal?

The rear main seal is on the back of the engine, it's behind the flexplate or flywheel and seals the crankshaft. The check to see if it's leaking is to check the weep hole where the transmission's bellhousing is bolted to the engine. if it's leaking it's going to be wettest around that area, depending upon the shape of the engine it can also seep onto the oil pan, soaking it too.

The weep hole where the transmission's bellhousing is bolted to the engine. Is that visual from under the car or do they need to remove something to check it? The reason I'm asking this is because visual inspection did not find any leaks from anywhere except the old heavy oil residue under the oil pan.
