Should we consider having a tracking thread (maybe a sticky) on this issue? Maybe it's a good idea to post the highest and lowest mileage of occurance with the year of the car. ie: Has any block cracked with less than 30k miles? Are the higher mileage cars of occurance newer or older?

the quicker you notice the problem im guessing the less likely you will have a warped head right? definitely don't want to over heat it.

Yeah, this is why I'm watching my car so carefully now. I think I watch the temp gage more than the speedo...

My head was warped and had two exhaust valves leaking but the temperature gauge never budged, nor did I get a check gauges light. The head was repaired under the warranty.

Car overheated, 2006 Civic EX 69000 miles, not under warranty, went to norm reeves Honda this morning, they knew about the engine block extended warranty. I got a call that it was definitely the engine block, they are going to order everything and I will have my car back Wednesday evening. So 4 days. Cost: $0.

Glad they're gonna take care of it. Dont forget to break in the new engine block assembly; it's all new.

@ 07BoostedSi : when this short block is replaced, is this all done from under the car on the lift (not by engine hoist from above)?

It depends on who does it honestly. One guy in our shop pulls the motor out the top. I drop the entire subframe with motor, trans, and rack out as an assembly. Then I disassemble the engine, remove the short block, install the new one, and reassemble. When its all finished I just drop the car back down on everything and bolt up my frame and mounts. Pretty easy.

Seems like you have the smarter method. When they take it out the top, do they have to remove the hood?

Ok so Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos has put in the new engine and everything, now they are saying that the car is stalling and are trying to get $360 from me to order and install a new fuse box which would fix the problem...

I told them that this problem did not exist when I brought the vehicle in and that it has to do with them putting in the new engine.. Why should I have to pay for something that is their fault and wasn't a problem when I brought the car in... They brought the price down to $290 but say that's the only thing they can do....

I'll keep this short... They need to fix it as part of the warranty work, plain and simple.

I know but they are saying that fuse box is electrical and electrical problems don't fall under the warranty...

Talk to the manager - they caused the 'electrical problem'.

Ok couple of things. First no the hood does not have to be removed. Second the main reason I have seen stalling or running rough is because there is still too much grease in the cylinders after install and it needs to burn off and possibly have plugs replaced. Third the are 100% liable for the damage to your car. If the warranty doesn't cover it then they need to pay to fix it. You didn't need a fuse box when it came in. Also ask to see why it needs replaced to check for damage. Demand to talk to the service manager, then the gm, then call honda customer service. It is not your responsibility. Make sure you give them bad feedback on the survey too.

@ 07BoostedSi : Thanks a ton for keeping us posted in the thread with an insider view. It really helps so much to know all this! Are you refering to grease as in lube that the factory puts in the short block for shipping?
