Bleh Power steering issue--Advice please

Basically I had power steering while the key is in the ON position, but when I accually started the car it would fail and the steering wheel with the "!" came up on my dash. (can anyone say OH S#%T) I turned the car off and reset the EcU (unplugged the battery for 15 min.) and while i was putting my radio code it it happened again, so i repeated and I havent had any more trouble in the last 48 hours

Is this an early sign of some BIGGER issue?

edit: It happened twice again today and this time the problem is taking 2-3 starts before power steering is kosher

thanks,
Nick

You gotta love old school hydraulic steering. It's not that they don't fail. But when they do, it's usually not as abrupt as an EPS system just "turning off" in the middle of a turn.

Checking the EPS system is a lot more complicated than inspecting the spark plugs, so I suggest you take it to the dealer the next time the EPS warning light comes on. Yes, drive it to the dealer with no steering assist... Needless to say, be careful doing so.

Better yet, when the EPS fails again, have a tow truck tow you to the dealer with the engine running (so the EPS warning stays on). I believe the Honda people needs the warning light turned on to get the DTC.

Your basis to decide on whether to go back to stock depends on the dealer. Some dealers are cool about most mods... others are PITA. I presume it is still under warranty? If it's worth fixing the EPS without any hitches, by all means, switch back to stock tires/suspension if you still have them.

It still needs fluid if im not mistaking (if im wrong im the guy who couldnt change his own oil 2 months ago so chill....)

Update though. its now doing it randomly even while driving which was quiet dangerous earlier.... almoast hit a parked car in the hood (ya i live in the ghetto).........I was making a sharp left and all of a sudden DENIED and wow. im a strong fella but god damn. So looks like the dealership ASAP it is... Might as well get my 3rd gear "grind" fixed and the "knocking" sound at low speed turns. (got the TSB's off here THANKS GUYS!)
