Ok i just get home from being in CO for a week for some snowboarding action. I CANT wait to just get in my car and go drive when i finally get home.
I thought a grocery store run would do the trick. I pull out of my neighborhood, 1st-2nd-3rd then to stop sign where im in neutral again. I pull out onto the street and as im going to 2nd, it grinds pretty badly. I had the cluth all the way down. Ok so i skip 2nd then go to 3rd. I cruise at 4th for a bit and when i downshift to go into the parking lot i find that i CANT shift into 2nd. Thats right, the shifter knob would NOT stay in 2nd. I would depress the clutch completely, put the knob securely into 2nd, then start to let off clutch. Right after i start letting of the clutch it grinds and pops me back to neutral. It does this EVERY time. I limp home and try to get into 2nd. I guess i perfectly rev matched going from 1st gear and it slipped into 2nd. NOW IT WONT LEAVE 2nd GEAR. Its STUCK in 2nd gear. I tried getting it into neutral with the car on AND off, reving and not reving. Excuse me, but what the ****. Im easy on the car, it has mainly highway miles. I have a 2006 Civic Si manufactured in June of 2006. 8000 Miles with dealer changed oil twice already. Last edited by MrPanther; 11-28-2006 at 01:52 AM. |

Ill really be screwed if it is deemed not to be under warranty. I guess i will find out how much Honda really is worth when I go by the dealer tomorow. Did i mention ill be riding to that dealership following a f****** tow truck?
I have only mis shifted going into 2nd maybe four or five times, as in i didnt have the clutch all the way down those times. But for a brand new honda, especially one geared for agressive driving, to mis shift a few times and wind up with an undrivable car seems like madness to me. |

Ok so I called Honda America. They asked what dealership I bought it from and put me on hold. A lady took me off hold and gave me a number to call for a tow truck. She informed me this is what my dealership uses and that it will be free of charge. One hour later my car was on its way to the dealership with me and a friend following it.
So I talked to the guy at the service desk and he said they will look at it first thing in the morning and that I will be granted a rental car if it is deemed to be under warranty. Ill find out tomorow, wish me luck. |

That sounds like a warranty repair...may be in the shop for a few days though. I'm guessing you'll have to have second gear replaced or possibly a new transmission but your new Si should not be having these problems already. I had a similar problem with my first new car, my 2001 Ford Mustang had to have fifth gear totally replaced within 12K miles or so. Don't worry though, Honda should fix it free of charge...it sounds like bad parts or poor assembly, not driver wear and tear. Good luck

you know what, i have the similiar problem and i posted it.
a few days ago, i was in 5th cruising... approaching a stop light so i try to downshift to 4th and IT WONT GO IN. its stuck either in neutral or it can go back into 5th. scary as hell. my clutch is all the way down, im trying to shift but nothing works. when its in neutral, it doesnt even move freely from left to right. i sit with the hazard lights until it lets up again, it happened like 5 times that day and not once since. i had my girlfriend sit in the car and shift gears while i took a look at the cables and stuff in the engine bay, and nothing was blocking it. so i took it in to honda yesterday for them to check it out, they had it for a good 3 hours, put 100KM on it and called me to say they couldn't find anything wrong with it. they predicted its the cold weather cause we just recently dropped to a record low of -40 degrees celsius with the windchill. they said it might be my driving habits too... but i cant think why it would be the weather or the way i drive. maybe a rock got stuck in something? try the dealership too. |

Yeah, the only thing that could be said is good about this situation is the fact that the gear stick is completely stuck in 2nd gear. This forces the dealership to tell me why and what happened to the transmission. With the 3rd gear slippage they can say there arent an obvious problems. They cant say that if its compltetely stuck. Anyways yall, Ill let you know what they tell me tomorow. |

wait... Nevermind, he never does anything. Ever. You'll be in it as long as the cops don't hit another woman crossing the street. |
