ok so today i was driving, going down a highway and i'm in 5th, approaching the stop light i try to shift down to 4th and my SHIFTER LOCKS UP. i can either go into 5th or stay in neutral.
i have a coupe btw. no matter how hard i tried, and how far i pushed the clutch, my shifter would not go anywhere else but 5th and stuck in neutral. i was stuck in the middle of the road, with my hazard lights on and trying to figure out how to fix it. then all of the sudden it worked again. happened twice on my way to school and i have no idea whats wrong. does anyone know whats wrong? or has anyone had this happen to them? is there a fix or solution to this?? helppppppppp!!!!! |

First off, pop your hood and have somebody go through the gears while you watch to make sure nothing is in there prohibiting the shifter from moving or something is messing with the cables.....then take it to the dealer. No need to panic if it's just something that has bounced up in there, especially after removing the factory airbox, because that just opens up all kinds of room for stuff to move around. Good luck

i went outside to check to see if anything was blocking the cables
i took out the stock airbox and such and replaced it with the Injen CAI and i dont see anything in the way it only happens when i stay in 5th for a while. i'll try and take it out for a drive, i have an appointment on monday at honda, we'll see whats up. thanks for letting me know about looking under the hood first. any other suggestions. |

yeah i guess i didnt state that
my girlfriend was doing the shifting, i was looking at the cables, nothing was in the way or anything. but again, it only happens when im in 5th cruising for a while... so im thinking maybe at the high speed something starts to jam? do you think that the dealership will say its because of the cold air intake? i cant think of a way to match it up.. |

My friends Mini Cooper S did something similar when I was driving it on the highway. It turns out the seal for the clutch fluid melted cuz of arizona heat and the clutch pedal wouldn't engage/disengage with the pedal. Sometimes it would work, othertimes I would be locked in. It just depended on how hard i slammed down the clutch -_-
Maybe this will help? ---> dealership |
