$75 for a Service Manual?

Being a proud new owner, I thought that I would pick up a Factory Service Manual from the dealership's parts counter. They told me to order one directly from as that is where their manuals come from.

OK, no problem. I look on the site and discover that the price is $75. Wow! That seems like a lot of money, even if it does come in two volumes.

Does anyone have any 411 on Factory Service Manuals?

Scott

I got the 2 Volume set and it. Has everything you need for the DIY'er.

It's not that expensive considering the detail and number of pages it has. I "found" other manuals for other Honda's and calculated printing them out would be more then ordering straight from Helms.

75 bucks for the manuels is cheap. I have them and the details it provides about the civic is well worth the money...Check on prices for toyota or nissan manuels...believe me..the civic manuels are a bargin.

It's hard to believe in this day and age that the option to buy the manual in electronic PDF format isn't available.

Let me tell ya, $75 for what that HELM manual provides is cheap. If you can do just ONE task by using the manual as opposed to going to the dealer, it's paid for itself. Plus, it's so well written even some of these dim bulbs that work at the dealer can understand it.

I own 3 Hondas and 2 Acuras and each of them has a HELM manual. Essential for the DIY'er---

But to have it electronic would be better, use less trees, and allow me to be able to view them in a much more detail manner. (politically correct answer)

They are one in the same. Helm is the publisher for Honda manuals.

Politically correct but I'm not crazy about having to use a keyboard & mouse with grease all over my hands. Apparently, not all of you have had to rest a shop manual in the engine bay while you reassemble a head or check electronic schematics. Not something I'd want to do with a laptop.

Sometimes the old ways are best, young grasshoppers.

I'd rather have the option to just print out only a few pages instead of being forced to haul around a 10lb 500-page manual.

It's actually more like 1500 pages. But don't worry maybe in a few years someone will scan it, I'm sure. You can find pdf helms manuals of most Hondas:)

Tru, tru. It just seems like every time I pull out the HELM for one thing, I end up working on something else or seeing how it's put together.

I've heard that an electronic version of each manual is available from Helm on a CD, but those CDs are only given to authorized Honda dealerships for their service departments.

Probably is true. Imagine if one of those CD's got out though haha. Anyone work at Honda that can sneak out a fresh 8thgen civic one?
