Where did you take it to have it changed, and what type of fluid did they use? A lot of people complain about cold grinds with various fluids. Some swear that certain brands will alleviate the grind. (users say amsoil mtf mostly)
amsoil vs honda mtf there are a TON of threads like the above ^^ search "amsoil mtf" |

Not normal no; as webby mentioned, a lot of people swear by Amsoil (I'm one, the car shifts fantastic after switching) - I would certainly take your car back to them and let them know the issue, and find out what fluid they put in your car. If they used the Honda fluid, make sure they used the one with the green label; that is the revised formula.
This is why I don't let other people work on my car for things I can easily do myself; if they're not sure of the capacity or procedure, they could have over/under-filled your transmission, maybe used whatever type of synchromesh trans fluid they had lying around, etc... You should ONLY use the following fluids in this car: Honda MTF (revised version, has a green label) Amsoil Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid Redline MTF 70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil GM Syncromesh MTF There may be other compatible fluids, but the above are known quantities. If you use something else, you MUST make sure it is compatible with brass synchros; if it isn't, the fluid will corrode the synchros, which obviously isn't good. If it doesn't specifically say it works the brass synchros? Assume is doesn't work with brass synchros. Also, Amsoil has a disclaimer on their site regarding not using their MTF in limited slip applications - since the Si has a helical LSD, it should be fine to use, as our diff doesn't require the special "slippage" additives that are typically required in viscious LSD's. Hope this info helps, but no, you should notice smoother shifting after a fluid change. |
