Straight Pipe... Yay or nay?

I am looking to get exhaust and I am short on cash. I read the other threads but am not quite convinced about it. Would it really be rice if I were to get straight pipe after my cat and how would it sound. I plan on leaving it in to have some sort of back pressure. Also would that give me more or less hp? Can any one help?

Keep in mind that you might be looking to save money, but you might end up spending more once you get a ticket and need to re-do it.

I think it'll be WAY too loud, but unbolt your muffler as a test and see. That'll give you the best idea of how loud / good / bad sounding it'll be.

Yeah I had to drive across town to a friend's house when I was installing my Vibrant catback, I couldn't do the install at my house and I'd already removed the muffler. Way too loud. And that was stock piping that still has a little resonator.

switch out your midpipe for a 2.5inch pipe and use your stock axle back

it'll be loud but not annoying loud.

^^agreed, you dont want to be running w/o a muffler, better to just dump the cat.

I hadn't thought about that... Thanks ill keep that in mind. Ill see how much that runs and see if it would be better to just get an exhaust or do that instead

I recommend you read this article about backpressure.

Backpressure: The myth and why it's wrong

I put on a Go Power 3" exhaust and a Skunk2 catless race header and saw great results.

How much do u think that wold run me to do that? If its a lot I would probably be better off buying a exhaust.

^There I fixed it

Get an exhaust, you'll be happier in the end with your car. Then sometime down the road get a catless header (unless your area has smog control)

I just finished reading that article. That makes a lot of sense. Nice to know people that do their research.
So u think that 3" would be the best for a 8th gen SI?
