Subwoofer installation help
Hi I own a Honda Civic LX 2008, and i just recently installed a pioneer avh-p4100dvd with the stock gps dash kit by Honda, and it looks great. (Will post pics later), but that was only step one of my speaker/sub set up. I now am looking at JL Audio 12W3v3-4, i plan on getting two of them, but i yet have to look for a box/enclosure, any recommendations? I don't have a price range but i plan on spending a lot of money for this project so something that will do its job but won't kill my pockets. Also, i'm still looking for an amp, the website recommends about 300W per sub. I was thinking if i got a monoblock 600-1000W and splitting them? Any recommendations for amp and what product? Lastly, what would be the best method of mounting/setting up the box in my trunk so it doesn't move around?
Thanks. |

Ok you have Quite a few Questions.... and so Do I
do you have a Coupe or a Sedan... ( that matters as for how the sound would travel) When looking at the Amp... look at the RMS... that would be the best way to get a strong amp... Max wattage isn't gonna do crap... I think a sealed box sounds good with my music choice (Rap Reggae) Sometimes ported boxes sound good... (Better IMHO for ROck and heavy Bass Songs) |

I have a Sedan, and I listen to the same as you, rap/hip-hop/raggae do you have any recommendations of what brand or what specific type of box and amp to get? Cause i really cant shop, and this is my first set up so i dont want to replace or regret any decisions i make myself Last edited by riceninja3; 02-05-2010 at 12:37 PM. |

ive heard exactly the opposite, and experienced the opposite. previously ran a dual bandpass in my last vehicle at 600w, slammed like hell with all typed of music. for a cleaner sound with anything other than rap, country, or techno, sealed it doing to give you the cleaner hit. you may get opinions left and right with different ops. it all depends on your ears, and what sounds good to you.

Kicker sounds Good For rap and stuffs MTX is well rounded... tend to make ROck and stuffs sound good... ^ Most of those come with specified Boxes that would give the speakers the best sound... The L7/L5 would be perfect if you like bass... if you're just looking for a filler or like a stock prem sound replacement... then 1 good 12 would be good. or 2 12' kicker Comp's Quote:
HOnestly i just sad that

As for the box, you should probably find out what JL recommends as far as ported or sealed. I know when I put my 12" Xplod in my truck, they had recommendations on box size and they recommended that it was a closed box. You might even want to try calling JL audio to see what they would recommend. As for making the box where it doesn't move around, just build the box. I know in the coupe, the trunk is a little smaller in width right behind the rear seats for about 2 feet and then it gets wider, (if that makes any sense), so either buy or build a box with about the same width as that one section and that will help alot with moving around. Then there is also the option of building two single boxes turned at an angle in the corners near the back seat and then connect the two boxs with a custom "amp rack" (just another piece of particle board connecting the two sub boxs put at a slight angle to mount the amp to). Its kinda hard to explain without being able to show you or draw it out, but hopefully you get the idea. Pretty much its like the two subs on each side, kinda turned towards the middle of the trunk and then the amp right in the middle of the two of them. Basically I would reccommend building the enclosure yourself or having a shop build you one. Thats the only way your gonna get something that isn't gonna slide all over your trunk and its gonna sound better too because the boxs will have been made to certain specifications for the sub you choose. As for the amp, Hifonics has some really good amps at a good price. But definitly look at RMS power like what Willyo224 said.

So after couple weeks of deciding and what not, i finally decided to go with JL Audio Slash v2 1000/1v2 which is a monoblock that pushes 1,000 watts RMS x 1 at 1.5 to 4 ohms and for the subs i've been looking at the JL Audio 12w7, hopefully i'll be bumping
