2009 Honda Civic Intermittent Hard Starting Problem

Join this PETITION if you get this problem, it'll make a difference for all of us civic owners!!

Please leave the model, year, Auto/Manual info.

most time I have the rough start problem when it sits overnight, have to start it twice or even third times. almost got it every week on everage.
- not caused by cold weather, I left the car outdoor overnight, the temp. down to -20C, still started well next morning.
- not fuel pressure (the first thing dealer would tell you to stay key at II position to prime fuel pressure, it doesn't work)
- not battery or charging system problem after dealer tested.

a lots of rumors about it:

- Immobilizers
- emissions
- fuel inject system, fuel pump or pump relay (Accord ever recalled before)
- air intake valve control
- ...

if you know anything more, please post here!!

I have an 09 and haven't had any issues with starting her up.. Hopefully I don't have to deal with this.

2010 lx automatic. When I start it up in the morning sometimes it's not smooth. Then a couple of times I'll start it but it doesn't go thru the whole process of starting and then I have to start again. Is this what you are talking about??

2010 Civic Rough and Jerks on Engine Start

Recently purchased a 2010 Civic Vp. Sometimes during engine start after car has sat for awhile it will make a slight banging sound and the car will jerk forward slightly. Right after I got it it was happening every couple of days. It has since gotten better and has not happened for a couple of weeks until today. I have tried to take a video of it but I cant get it to happen when a camera is on it. It will always start right up after noise and jerk. I want to take it back to dealer but I know what they are going to do. They will have to duplicate it and of course that won't happen. I am trying to get some info from these forums and a video if I can get it so I can have something to tell the dealer.

What's the process of "testing" by the dealership? Does it involve a new battery? A higher CCA battery??

I don't think honda will do anything about this. I have a 97 civic and it kind of did this too in that year. Now my 2010 does this. Maybe it's just a known thing with all hondas?

bluewaterlee, When you say that's the problem are you experiencing what I described about the knock and jerk on engine start?

I have an 09 Si, never had this happen, is yours an automatic?? Tranny maybe causing the jerk motion?

Dave
now are you saying you have to crank it more than three times to get it to start?

That's what I am thinking. What I am trying to figure out is if the transmission is in park what would make it engage like that to cause the car to jerk. The jerking motion is very slight.

I got this problem a couple times.

civic-DX 09 Auto Trans.

it cranked very weak then completely died, all lights on panel off, but second start quite smooth.

I already made an appointment with dealer, will see what they going to do.

mine was doing this I found a bad solder connection on one of the main fuses. it was a longer rectangular shaped one. If you were looking at it from the front of the car, It was the one in the back left corner (a large rectangular shaped fuse)

There's a TSB out for the accord. I'm guessing it's similar symptom.
TSB 09-010
Engine Rattles at Cold Start-Up
SYMPTOM
At cold start-up, the engine rattles loudly for about 2 seconds.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The VTC (variable timing control) actuator is faulty.

I have an 08 si and my car stumbles when it is first started after sitting overnight. When I first start it the rpms stumble around 900 to 1000 for a second after it starts before finally catching itself , then the rpms go up to 2000 like normal. I have boltons and flashpro , I tried adjusting the cranking fuel by adding and subtracting fuel but doesnt help.
