Engine Tick?

Has anyone noticed a loud constant ticking when idling? I've heard it in older cars with 100k+ on their engines; but I've never heard of it on a new car. I thought new was supposed to mean quiet. My new Ex (with 12k) is ticking louder than my old 93 Protege and that thing had 150k+ on it.

I'm just asking because I don't want to take it in unless I have to. I've already taken it in for rattling speakers and they didn't even come close to fixing it so I'm hesitant to trust the stealership.

Ummm.... I think there's a recall for something like that if I remember. Doesn't affect my VIN range, but it has something to do with the tensioner pulley rattling. The fix is a new belt I think, so it sounds like a relatively easy fix.

............I'll be damned if I can find that post, though. Sorry. Anyone know the one I'm talking about?

*EDIT* Also, the recall was for the R18 only.

yeah some days my EX sedan is loud like an old car and other days it isn't. i dont get it, especially since it doesn't seem to matter if the engine is hot or cold, etc. i just live with it.
