What is it with some people that they just "have" to spend every waking moment in search of something wrong with their cars??Give us a break bud.......you park the car, then get out and deliberately shake it on it's wheels, then you listen very closely and guess what, you can hear the fuel sloshing!!! Well, "Duuhhhh!!" The only problem your car has is the loose nut behind the wheel! |

I have an EX Sedan and I hear a great deal of fuel slosh as well. All cars have baffles in the tank (like a waterbed) to keep the sloshing to a minimum. I think that these Civics just have very little in the way of baffling, if it was a broken baffle, you would have a clunk along with the slosh (clunk n' slosh?). I've owned quite a few cars, and my 8th gen has the noisiest fuel tank since my '78 Jeep CJ5.

My last two cars were, 1) a 2001 Honda Odyssey. Minivans are rolling boxes and sometimes, about as aerodynamic as a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Wind noise was a fact of life with that car, especially if you were pushing a quartering headwind. The downwind front door would "sing" under the right circumstances. 2) a 2004 Honda S2000. If you think your Civic is loud, try a day trip in a rag top convertible. Actually, I though my S2000 was pretty quiet for a rag top. I took a 6000 mile trip to California in July of 2005 and was very pleased with the performance and comfort of the car. I've made the same trip a number of times through the years on a motorcycle and after that, the S2000 was downright luxurious! So you see, compared to those two, my Civic is "almost" luxury car quiet! I'm surprised to hear you say that the fuel sloshing is only noticable when you've got over 3/4's of a tank of fuel? I would have thought that it would only be a problem with half a tank or less. Three fourths of a tank is almost full and there's just not that much room for the fuel to slosh around in. Must be some weird harmonic going on?Drive Safe, Steve R. |
