i think you need to drain the gas tank every time you hear a sound like that...to make sure there is no monster inside...

I hear it. It took me a while to figure out where the sound was coming from but yeah, it's the gas in the tank moving around. Never heard it in my old civic.

What is it with some people that they just "have" to spend every waking moment in search of something wrong with their cars??

Give us a break bud.......you park the car, then get out and deliberately shake it on it's wheels, then you listen very closely and guess what, you can hear the fuel sloshing!!!

Well, "Duuhhhh!!" The only problem your car has is the loose nut behind the wheel!

i'll agree that it is louder in this car than usual...my ep3 had no back seats etc and it still wasn't this loud

sounds like you're on a boat and the water is hitting the hull

i'll also agree that it doesn't mean a damn thing

Which body style are we talking about here? The OP says he's got an EX model but doesn't say if it's a 2 or 4 door. I've got an EX sedan and I've never heard anything remotely like this. I have heard this kind of sound on other cars I've owned so I know what they're refering to but my '06 Civic EX sedan has proven to be one of the quietest cars I've owned in a number of years.

Just wondering?

I have an EX Sedan and I hear a great deal of fuel slosh as well. All cars have baffles in the tank (like a waterbed) to keep the sloshing to a minimum. I think that these Civics just have very little in the way of baffling, if it was a broken baffle, you would have a clunk along with the slosh (clunk n' slosh?). I've owned quite a few cars, and my 8th gen has the noisiest fuel tank since my '78 Jeep CJ5.

I only hear it if i have anything over 3/4 in my tank, but doesn't this happen with all cars?? Also steve, if you think the civic is quiet, go sit in a Toyota Camry or Avalon, or any non sporty lexus.

It's actually a lot more pronounced than my 96 accord. Is this something that we should be worried about?

Quiet is a relative term. :) The Civic isn't in the same league as the Camry and certainly not in the same leage as an Avalon or Lexus. I wouldn't expect it to be as quiet as those cars are.

My last two cars were, 1) a 2001 Honda Odyssey. Minivans are rolling boxes and sometimes, about as aerodynamic as a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Wind noise was a fact of life with that car, especially if you were pushing a quartering headwind. The downwind front door would "sing" under the right circumstances. 2) a 2004 Honda S2000. If you think your Civic is loud, try a day trip in a rag top convertible. Actually, I though my S2000 was pretty quiet for a rag top. I took a 6000 mile trip to California in July of 2005 and was very pleased with the performance and comfort of the car. I've made the same trip a number of times through the years on a motorcycle and after that, the S2000 was downright luxurious!

So you see, compared to those two, my Civic is "almost" luxury car quiet!

I'm surprised to hear you say that the fuel sloshing is only noticable when you've got over 3/4's of a tank of fuel? I would have thought that it would only be a problem with half a tank or less. Three fourths of a tank is almost full and there's just not that much room for the fuel to slosh around in. Must be some weird harmonic going on?

Steve R.

No, it may be annoying sometimes, but it's not hurting anything. As others have pointed out, all cars will do this to one degree or another. It's just a matter of how obvious it is the driver and passengers. I'd imagine that larger vehicles, with larger gas tanks, probably have baffles in the tank to reduce the symptom. Maybe Honda should have put a baffle, or an extra baffle if it's already got one, in the tank to control this better but it's not anything that's going to effect the cars drivability or reliability.

FWIW!

Steve R.

Yeah it's kind of funny, i only notice when my tank is full, or nearly full. When it's 1/2 of less i don't really notice.
