chug chug chug
what the frig.. i'm mad as hell at my car.. so i just started to notice because i've been driving in a lot of traffic that if i'm doing like 10mph in first gear and i let go of the gas because traffic starts to slow down and when they pick back up i'll be around 5mph i hit the gas and my car will jerk (chug) back and forth like 3 or 4 times while its regaining speed... this is pissing me off.. when i have passengers in the car they'll have the worst ride of their life in a brand new friggen car.. does anyone else experience this?

1 - is it ur first manual car? :) first gear was designed to start the car, from a stop :) after that, shift to 2nd. |

answer to 1- yes this is the first manual car that I own myself but i drove a bunch of other ones before and never had this problem, regardless of if i'm in first or third.. its just most dramatic in first. third will do it if my RPMs get low and i hit the throttle it chugs but not as dramatically

You just need to get more comfy with the tranny....I usually rev the sheisse out of 1st and no jerky...it is VERY sensetibe gear though...It really does take some skill to keep it from jerking...

This is known as "lugging" and is common with most low-power vehicles with a manual transmission. Your Civic needs higher revs to get the car moving. Downshift to 2nd and it'll be fine. Same with 1st gear at low speeds. It just needs higher revs before you can accelerate. Sometimes, regardless of which gear you're in, you may need to do a little clutch fluttering to get the car to move smoothly. This is not a problem limited to the Civic, and is more a limitation of manual transmissions in smaller cars. It'll never be as smooth as an automatic... the price you pay for good control. |

You need to get your pcm reflashed. I had the same problem in traffic. It to pissed me off. Also do you notice if you let off the throttle it is not instant. It has a 1-2 sec. delay. Since the reflash it has not happened again. Do not shift into first if you are above 5mph.
