'06 FBP Si Transmission/Clutch Problems!

I got my '06 Si back in july. On occasion, i'll drive it a bit hard, but only during acceleration up to highway speeds, and then I let off and drive like a normal person (VTEC is VERY exciting). Anyway, i've had problems for a while shifting from 2nd to 3rd, and suddenly, this problem has gone away, and has been replaced by a new problem. My clutch is now slipping until it reaches 4500 RPM. At WOT in any gear other than 1st, the Tach flies up to 4500, stays there until the transmission catches up, then seems normal above that range. I went to honda to have it checked out, and they're telling me that they need to take apart the transmission and clutch, and that I need to sign off that if they determine that the problems aren't because of a manufacturer's defect, I'll need to pay, not only for a new clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and bearing, but that i'll have to pay $92 per hour for all the time included as well as time for their diagnostic fee. I tried to explain to them that the problem might be related to rev hang, and the problem with the 2 -> 3 gear grinding, but they're stating that they can't even look at it without me signing that paper saying that i'll pay for everything if they check it out and determine that it's not defective! The car is 3 months old, and has only 7500 miles on it. Does this sound strange?

Please, somebody help!

Go to another dealer.. Thats not the way to talk to a customer.. WTF :)
Do you have warranty? bumper to bumper?

I have the standard warranty on the car -- the 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty...do you think that if i get the extended warranty then it might be covered?

Ive said this before. They should warranty your car no matter how you drive it! You didnt buy a kia, You bought an si which is a performance model. There is a 3 year 36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Id be getting short man syndrome.

I would assume that is normal. I mean what if someone dumps sand into their engine and takes it to Honda...Honda should pay for the time to diagnose it? I'm not saying the OP has done anything wrong at all, but the dealer has to protect themselves and taking apart the tranny is no small job...They simply dont want to be stuck with the bill if its not a defect (in which case Honda will not reimburse them).

I imagine any dealer will do this for a large warranty claim...just my .02 and best of luck OP!

True, but how did the problem get developed? What If I'm just driving my car and PUFS! something happens :)
Am I going to pay for it? Of course not!! I have warranty :)

No, you wont pay for it if it's not your fault. You will if it is. He doesn't have to pay anything up front

Well, yeah, nothing up front, but then again, the same people doing the work are the people who decide whether it's under warranty or not....and these people work for the dealership...so it doesn't really matter if it's up front or not....because eventually i will pay out the a$$ if i just let them do the work

thats bs, i would not sign that. That is why you have a warrenty and believe me, you pay for that warrenty somewhere in the price of the car so you should use it.

Also, if anybody viewing this is from long island, let me know if you know of any honda dealerships that might be more customer friendly...because i'm still yet to find ANY dealership on LI that is friendly about anything after you buy the car.

Just for clarification:

1: My Si is not the first car i've had in stick.
2: I replaced the clutch on my mustang GT at 75K miles.
3: I raced my mustang in autocross, and did tons of burnouts. I don't treat my civic like that, although i plan to when the warranty is up :)

I think that durability is a manufacturer's defect. I bought a Honda to be more reliable than my Ford (Fix Or Repair Daily).

It isn't covered under warranty. BUT make a huuge fuss about testdrives if there were any before you bought your car. I have head that dealers were taking Si's out for joy rides during the inspection and were driving them very rough. Just blame it all on them and show up there with a draft of a letter to Honda.

guess what, they'll say that just because it's a performance car and just about everyone who buys this car drives hard

sux but thats life...just find a nice dealer who will fix it for you

UPDATE:

Went to a second dealership, Millenium Honda, and they said $385 to take a look at it if it's not under warranty. Total cost would be $1300 with new clutch, etc. I went to SpeedWorld in baldwin, and told them my story. They felt really bad, and said they would cut me a deal on the labor portion. For a stage II clutch and pressure plate, which would handle up to 365 ft/lb of torque (nearly impossible on an SI without spending 10K on performance) they said it would be $550 for the parts and $400 for labor. Total cost would be $950...or $350 less than honda, which means i could get my windows tinted and a CAI... :) :) :)
