DRL light

quick question:

when you guys drive with the headlights OFF, and the DRL's come on, does a Green DRL indicator light come up on your console/dash?

I see the light, but it never comes on. When i hooked up the headlights harnesses incorrectly, the "DRL" indicator comes on.

The green indicator is the full headlight indicator. It only comes on when you manually turn the headlight switch to the ON position. The DRL indicator is a very faint partial power blue highbeam indicator. It's very difficult to see in daylight. In fact, if you can see a faint blue glowing highbeam indicator, it's probably time to turn your full headlights on.

How long does it take for everyone elses DRLs to turn on. When I turn the car on they dont automatically turn on. It takes a while after but I never notice how long but I just notice the reflextion of the DRLs turned on off of the car infront of me driving.

if you've got a manual car, the DRL's wont come on until you let go of the handbrake after starting the car.
i'm not sure about automatic.

and like civicwithnav said, the DRL light comes on in the console only when theres something wrong with the DRL's.

In the automatic, if you start the car with the ebrake on, the drls will be off. Take the ebrake off, drls come on.

I drive an auto, after i start my car, the drls' don't turn on until i release the e-brake. There's a really dim blue light that turns on with it (the highbeam indicator light, but underpowered)

Not on this car but I've done it to my cars in the past. Prior to the advent of "smart" airbags I didn't like them. I'm still not really comfortable with the thought of an explosive being that close to me, but I live with it now.

As for the DRLs, back in the olden days when only motorcycles used their headlights during the day, they stood out and were visible. Now that most cars have DRLs, I've become desensitized to them and they're not really a safety feature any more.

<rant>Besides, if people paid more attention to the act of driving, instead of talking on cell phones, eating, putting on makeup, smacking kids, etc., we wouldn't need all these "safety" features. But that's an entirely different rant...</rant>
