Got a letter from Honda... W/ PICS

Did any of you guys get this letter from honda about this problem?

Product Update: SRS Indicator Does Not Go Off

Someone tell me what the heck is a SRS problem?

Is this a big problem because I don't really want to deal with the dealership Since I got some stuff mods in my car.

It's for your Occupant Position Detection Sensor.

It's the sensor in your passanger seat back. They will replace it at no charge
becuase it is a recall.

Your mods shouldn't matter.

EDIT:I should say it's an update not really a recall.

Yeah, it may mess with the activation of the passenger airbags. Take it in.

take it back to the dealer. its a big deal coz its safety issue. it shouldn't take them 1 day to fix that.

I had this done when i bought the car last year Nov 5 2005. They found out it was a faulty sensor on the SRS airbag,on the passenger side and the indicator light would not go off, which means the airbag was not working properly. So guess what? i got the recall and took it in to the dealer, and just when i thought it was done then what? i drive a few miles out of the dealership on my way home, and i found out they didnt replace it!!!! damn i was so pissed off so i brought it back in luckily, and they finally fixed it the second time...damn retarded service people at the dealership...i highly recommend that you bring your car in a get it serviced IMMEDEATLY!! good luck and hopefully the'll fix your sensor the first time, and not the second time like my dealer did.

I got something about a phone number being wrong in the back of the owners manual but nothing that said anything about the SRS being bad.

It may only affect a certain VIN range so not everyone will get the update letter.

They will only replace your OPDS if your SRS light on your dash does not go out.

Since you received the letter you should be considered in the affected VIN range.
You should definetly get it repaired. Once the SRS lamp goes on your SRS system is disabled until the lamp goes out. I am sure the repair won't take very long. That is as long as the parts are in stock. Some SRS parts are a controlled item and may need to be ordered for you specific car.

From what I can make of that letter it's an update for the OPDS Sensor.

The sensor is the actual seat cushion. There are 4 area's in the seat that detect the passengers weight, height and position on the seat which will determine how fast or even if the airbag will deploy.

If the sensors detect a passenger for example leaning on the door and not sitting properly in the seat the passanger airbag will not deploy. You may be caused more injury due to the airbag deploying if you are not sitting properly.

Your SRS system is not completely disabled if the passenger airbag light is on.All other airbags will function properly.

As said your car falls in the VIN range.Even though your light may not be on you should still take your car and the letter to your dealer and see what they tell you.Again if your light isn't on they may not replace your OPDS sensor.

I wish Honda would be more open about these things.

I haven't gotten a word from Honda about ANYTHING for my Si yet, I've heard EVERYTHING on this board.

Tell them you are interested in seeing what the sensor looks like.

If they replaced it they will show it to you.

There's no real way of knowing.Your whole seat has to come out to replace it and then your seat leather is taken off the seatback.Usually things are put back together properly so it's tough to say if you would notice.
