Feels like Sticky Clutch (COLD WEATHER)

I currently reside in Edmonton Alberta, and it gets down to about -35 degrees CELCIUS around here.

2009 si , 6000kms, pretty much brand new

Recently I've been noticing the clutch is harder to push down and takes a noticable while to come back up on its own. In other words, theres a conciderable amount of resistance when working the clutch.

Im wondering if this is a problem with the clutch or just the fluids becoming like jello due to this weather? I noticed it about a week ago, which is when the extremely cold weather came around.

Anyone help me out? Thanks

I would think that any issues due to temperature would become less noticable or go away all together after the car has warmed up completely. If ur clutch is still like this even after a decent drive I would look for somethng else to be the issue. I could be wrng on that since its so cold....

Fluid gets less viscous as it gets colder. My clutch does the same thing here in Maine and I am not quite as cold as you. Assuming the feeling goes away as the car warms up, it sounds pretty normal.

nah it's totally normal. i live in calgary and once it gets to the magical -20 range the clutch stiffens up and gets better once it's warmed up/tranny fluid gets warmed up. usually takes about 20-30mins of driving for mine to feel a little looser.

Mine is the same way up here in Innisfail, didn't really notice it last year so much but this year I noticed it when it is any colder than -20 or so.

thanks all,

hmm relating to that one response about after the car warms up:
The thing is start my car for 10 mins then it feels fine for about 2 minutes on the road. Then the same feeling of resistance. I park and let it idle outside for about 5 mins, and its all better then repeats when I drive again. Im thinking because of the cold air?

Have any of you guys noticed you clutch skip or chatter when you take off when its really cold??? Seemed to only start doing it since the cold air has come in..

It seems to go away after a lil while, but my clutch seems to still be catching high on the pedal?? Car has 50K miles on it. I cant imagine I would already need a new clutch?

Any input??

You get used to it. I actually feel colder when its 55 degrees out on a summer night than when its 25 degrees out on a winter night. Its weird, your body adjusts to it.

There was one night when for whatever reason I could not shift without slippin the clutch. Everytime I would release the clutch pedal I would end up slippin. But it went away.

Like everyone said it's completely normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey, I live here in edmonton as well. In regards to the insane cold snap we had 2 weekends ago, and with my 2008 Si and couple of years of winter i've driven the vehicle, you will notice the clutch and brake get stiffer when its really chilly out. Its normal, just drive safely around a bit and it'll loosen up.

In regards to it getting stiffer after a few minutes of driving, its due to the wind chill we get. The cold air gets into your engine compartment and underside of the car while moving, which starts to freeze everything again, thus you feel the stiffness return, especially when you're driving on the henday or highways

That happens on my car whenever the overnight temps get really low. It does make for some effortlessly smooth gear changes in the morning though as the clutch pedal takes a few seconds to come back up on it's own.
