VSA help?

So as my 08 Si (Canadian) model doesn't come with VSA, I was wondering... what does VSA do exactly? (I don't want to google it :@)

The only thing I know it does is something about not allowing your tires to spin; eg in winter, if you floor it, it would cut out the gas or what not.

I've also heard that it stops individual tires from spinning. T/F?

VSA / ESC are completely different. T/F?

Also... is VSA different from car make to car make? Eg, Honda to BMW etc? I'm posting here because I don't appreciate my friends bashing my car for not having VSA, and bragging how GREAT VSA is.. I've never had ANY problems driving in winter and I actually haven't recalled a point in time where I've had tire spin in winter

Interesting find...
0:56 - guy tries to floor it going up a flat-ice surface, so of course he won't get traction..

BUT
1:28 - he attempts to give 'little' throttle, which would be classified as 'proper winter driving'..

and
1:49 - with traction control - that's pretty amazing.. :|

vehicle stability assist
helps control oversteer by applying the brakes to the front & rear outside wheels
controls understeer by applying the front & rear inside wheels in addition to controlling engine torque when acceleration

The VSA system aslo controls ABS, EBD (electronic brake distribution), TCS (traction control)

EBD changes the rear braking force if the rear wheels are spinning less than the front

TCS applies brake pressure to a wheel that is spinning more than the wheel on the other side on the car
it will also limit torque to the spinning wheel to help keep traction

The actual name and letter acronym is different for each car manuf. but the theory is basically the same
I believe all cars sold in the US as of 2010/11 are suppose to be required to have some form of traction control system in them
