intake air coupler

I have done a search for this and got a lot of responses for CAI stuff but not my question: If I remove the rubber billows tube from the air filter box that goes down to the resonator behind the grille, am I doing any damage? It does sound better... This is an 09 EX....

it's a lease so I'll just run with the box disconnected from the filter, that's ok?
