HELP! Adjusting Automatic Shifter Cable HELP!

I hit my girls automatic shifter lever kinda hard putting a box in the car and now I can't get the keys out of the ignition.

Can someone explain how to adjust the shifter cable or maybe post up a service .PDF or explain how to do it. She's VERY pissed off!!! ha ha

actually i am. and no matter what you have to take the center console back apart to make the adjustment. sorry i can't copy the service manual and put it in pdf form, but i can tell you it's gonna take a bit of work to adjust it. i'd recommend taking it to someone unless someone on here is willing to copy the service manual for you.

How does hitting the shifter get the key stuck? I've hit my shifter with a hammer , wheels, rims, boxes, slammed it forward, yanked it back, and never have I had the key stuck in the ignition.

Try removing the ring around shifter to give it more play forward and back. you also may have jammed the the trigger so it doesn't engage the switch. easiest way is to remove the knob and re install it.

There are a lot of DIY's on shifter swaps for the AT.

DIY - Automatic Shift Knob Replacement

that's just one of them.

IIRC, the shifter has to be in PARK in order for you to take the key out. It happened to me a couple of times when I turned off my engine while in DRIVE and tried to take the key out. Maybe, that's what happened???
