transmission controller problem

im having an issue with my 07 lx sedan(AT). ive been to the shop 5 times now, and its currently there again being looked at, long story short i had a friend help me install a sub and now my vehichle wiring harness is exposed on several wires under the drivers side dash where it comes through the firewall.(still in the rubber gromet)

they fixed this a number of times and it happened the other day, and when i went to take it to the shop today it worked fine, but something is still wrong because cars dont magically fix themselves.

so i talked to the guy there and asked about replacing the wiring harness and he said it would be ALOT, he didnt even quote me on it. is there anything i can do myself about this? or will i be buying a new harness for this(i wont be having it done at this same shop, kind of fed up with them.) also what would this cost approx if i have to do it?

basically the auto trans doesnt shift when i have the problem. it goes into a uni-gear(feels like 3rd) and i roll till 25 then take off normal, and about 40-45 it gets touchy because it cant shift.

its more of an electrical problem, but it affects the transmisson

So what did your friend do, shove something through the grommet to get the power wire through and cut up the insulation on a bunch of other wires in the process? The shop is correct, replacing that harness is going to cost a LOT in labor if it can't be reached for repair. More than likely the dashboard and lots of stuff behind it is going to have to come out to replace that harness. It could easily be over a days work for an experienced tech.

There's not a lot of room under the hood or under the dash for them to work on those wires especially if it's the main harness, and doing a "quick fix" of just trying to move the wires around and tape them up isn't a good solution (as you've found out).

Can you add any details? Why haven't they been able to fix it? Can they not reach it? Are you trying to get them to do it as cheaply as possible? Is it at a dealer or local shop?

its a local shop, what happened is my friend used a spade drill bit instead of a coat hanger to run the power cable for the sub, and theyve been taping it up as they find more wires and i come back, but its the same general area that has all the problems(in that gromet). its cost about 500$ so far(they charged me once, and fixed it 4 more times under the work guarantee.) i gotta run to work now, but hopefully you have enough info to help me some

Yikes

I think it's prob past the point of a quick repair with tape if they've tried 5x at it already, but it sounds like they're at least trying though.

Looks like you're going to have to bite the bullet and get the harness replaced. Hopefully it's not the main one, but I have a feeling it probably is... Definately a good days work for an experienced tech.

Resident asshat
there is a good amount of slack that can be made with a few careful tugs on the wire harness.

if its just a few wires that have the insulation ripped, it shoudl be an easy fix.

pull teh grommet out of teh firewall completely. slide id downt eh wireing ahrness a few inches so it sout fo teh way. use a razor and carefully cut back and sheathing or electrical tape that is holding the wire harenss together. either cut and resolder any wires that need it, or use a minimal amount of electrical tape and carefully wrap teh wires. use a lighter and carefully heat up the tape so it shrimks slightly.do this for all teh damaged wires.
then just put it all abck together.

if you have to do any cutting and resoldering, one of these will eb your new best friend.

this shoudlnt take any mroe than a couple hours if takign your time. make it easy on yourself and get everything out of way (either interior peices or the cowl and heat sheild)

to replace the harness will probly be $600+ job. so mind as well try and repair it first.
