Burning Smell

Yesturday I went and raced, and I know i messed up and burnt so much clutch. I smelled a lot of burnt clutch but it smelled like burt brakes. Today this morning I've already driven 30 miles and the smell is still there, not as much as yesturday but when I pop my hood and sniff, the smell is still there. is this normal or no? Im not sure if its my brakes or my clutch. I dont really know how to distinguish the two.

You burn something Wait couple day, if the smell still around check with the auto shop. Maybe, just spray some fresh scent into the car

most likely its the clutch but its not that normal to smell the day after.. brakes will smell during the aggressive driving and go away a short time after the aggressive usage.. I track my two civic hatchbacks all time and well, dont have that same smell the day after.. i would have it looked at just to be safe.. The clutch that comes with the car is pretty damn good.. What kind of racing where you doing?

On regular day i drive like a grand mother. I never go past 3.5K RPM. Last night was like the first time i drove it hard. My car has 7200 miles and last night was the only time i drove it hard. I pulled the Ebrake then reved to like 5K while feathering the clutch so it feels like the car is moving but its being stoped by the Ebrake then when we went all i did was release the ebrake. but it felt like the clutch was slipping.

What where you doing that for? Trying to preload the drivetrain like power braking or brake torqueing in an automatic?

It's not a good idea to slip the clutch for very long at all, a lot of heat is generated that can't be removed easily, thus the clutch heating up and you taking off with a slipping, smoking clutch.

The smell will eventially go away, but it may stay for a few days. When I worked at Acura some of the cars would come back from test drives stinking like burnt clutch (Which is a particularly horrible smell too) and the stink would stay under the hood for 2 - 3 days.

For your clutches future life, don't slip it so much, your more than likely fine if you don't keep doing it.

The burnt clutch smell should go away after 3-4 days. Revving the motor with the clutch in is more than likely what caused the smell.

clutch is pretty much the same material as your brakes.
