Tires Pressure = 50+ PSi..? Possible?

Yesterday I went to a gas station to see my tire pressure, i waited for like 30 min, and I checked all 4 tires.. wow!! 50+ Psi..
Is it even possible?

Check them 'cold' in the morning before you start driving. It can take much more than 30 min for your pressure to come down as your tires can retain a significant amount of heat for hours.

Depending on the tire you're running, that could be at or over the max inflation pressure.

#1 Dealerships are known to way over fill the tires with air

#2 30 minutes is not enough to let a tire cool. You must do it in the morning, drive no more than 1 mile then you can check. This is the only real way to check. Better you check them before you drive then drive less than 1 mile to correct pressures.

you have to let the tires cool more like 3-4hrs.
50psi at hot is imho too high.

a car of this size should only need no more than 35psi cold
unless you're auto-x or need specified psi to dial in at the track.

on street, 35psi cold will equate to about 43-45psi hot in the
summer time. you can crank more psi cold in the winter if
you're in my area...like 37psi.

50psi hot means that your cold pressure is in the 40's. too high.

also use a nice tire gauge. i use one from InterComp and also
a digital one from Sears (red one $24 range).

yeah... 50psi is no good

i wouldn't go above 40psi cuz it messes up the ride

im set at 35psi front and 32psi in the rear (COLD pressure)

stock recommendation is 32/29

I use 40-45 psi and it's fine. There's many advantages to running your tire pressure high, such as, even wear on your tires and better gas mileage.

Right, but then less of your tires will be touching the road - which means you'll be bouncing down the road and take more time to come to a stop.

^^ +1 and your tires will actually take more burden and can lead to bursts.

lower your pressure for street to less than 35psi cold. your tires will grip
better too for normal driving.

No matter what anyone says, if you stick with recommended tire pressure on the sticker, you are fine.

Maybe 1 PSI over for a tad better handling and or gas mileage.

Check out the following artical. It's from a motorcycle related web site but the info is pertinent to anyone who has to put air in a tire.

As for what pressure to set your tires to? As others have already said, it should be set with the tires cold. The car manufacturer will give recommended pressures and that's probably what you should go with. Under no circumstances should you inflate the tires to a cold pressure higher than what's stamped on the side of the tire.

Good luck,
Steve R.

it should state "if you stick with recommended tire pressure on the
sticker, you are at a compromise."
