270 degree spin, went up on curb/median rear first
Last night I hit a wetspot as I was braking and did a 270 degree spin, going up on the curb right rear wheel first. The car ended up perpendicular to the street, and I was able to drive it off just fine. Right away, I noticed that the alignment is off (the steering wheel is about 45 degrees off center to the left when going straight), and obviously the rim is bent up, but the wheel and tire itself appears fine, as I haven't even had a TPMS or low pressure indication. The car seems to drive fine (with me correcting for the alignment), though I haven't gotten it over 60 yet, but I'm concerned because there's an intermittent, medium-pitched "hum" that starts just under 50mph and gets faster with acceleration. Looking at the right rear wheel, it looks like it might actually be slanted towards the left ever so slightly, but I can't really tell if it's just an illusion created by the bent rim. Any ideas on what might need to be done (besides an alignment) and how much it might cost? Keep in mind, I don't know anything about cars and don't work on them myself, so it will be a shop doing it...
I appreciate any input guys. Sorry to be "that" new guy who only joins because of an immediate, selfish need. |

What do you drive? Alot of cars have camber in the rear wheels. I know the rears on my Si lean a little bit naturally. You said the wheel was bent up but the rim is fine? They are the same thing. Post some pics like said and we can be more help.

Ah, can't believe I left out the make/model! 2008 Civic LX coupe, automatic. Nothing fancy.. I took some pics, and will be uploading them shortly. To clarify, the rim is bent up, not the wheel, though it looks like it may have shifted to the left some... pics coming soon.

I know you're said you don't know much about cars, I'll admit I don't either, other than driving the crap outta mine.
But your rim is the same thing as your wheel. Are you saying the rim is bent, but the wheel is in the same spot it is supposed to be? I'd say go for the alignment that you know you need. When they get it in the air, they'll tell you if you have suspension or other damage.

![]() as GSXR already said...they are the same thing. you obviously have suspension problems. your steering wheel wouldnt just go 45 degrees off center for nothing. your steering wheel is only connected to your front wheels, so you have rear and front end suspension damage. if only the rear was messed up, the steering wheel wouldnt be off center. the hum could be damamged wheel bearing. id suggest bringing it to a body shop. and there is a good chance you might want to get insurance involved. suspsenion parts and labor will add up fast. |

edit you definitely bent something. just take it to a body shop. could be anything from a bent lower control arm to something even worse. Hum could be a bad wheel bearing.

![]() By what can be seen though it looks bad. And if your front end is out of alignment too it sounds like you hit hard, or multiple times. I would think about calling insurance company, you may be looking at a few grand in damage. |

While I certainly appreciate your input, I'm going to hold off on insurance for now. My deductible is $1,000 (it's the cheapest option, and even though there aren't any tickets/accidents on my record, for some reason I still have to pay $140/month for the bare minimum), and I'm trying to be optimistic about the damage. I guess what makes me think there isn't anything serious other than the alignment is that my reasoning says if it was enough to even blow or puncture the tire (no air pressure loss, no TPMS indications), and there are no other lights coming on regarding fluid and what not, it's not that serious.
