Rust on the door

Going out to get some lunch I notice on the door some rust. It is the seam inbetween the thin small metal piece holding the rubber part next to the door frame. Where the two parts are attached. The seam doesn't seem to be air tight. I noticed small bits of rust. I checked the other door on the way back in and there was rust on the same location.

Anyone else notice this?

On a car that isn't even 3yrs old this shouldn't be happening. Mine is a 2007 Si bought in march of 2007.

I will take pics but I don't know if the macro mode on the camera is good enough to capture what I am talking about. At least people will know what location I am talking about and check on their cars.

This reminded me of that rust problem with the Toyotas. It might not be a big issue now but could develop into a bigger problem for anyone keeping their car for more then a few years.

If you can just take a picture of the rust (macro) and a large shot of the general area, then I can tell you how serious it might be.

Rust is terrible stuff... no matter what you do (short of replacing the rusted panel or part altogether) it will never go away and will continue to spread, regardless of what vehicle you're driving.

OP... are you in Canada or somewhere that they use salt on the roads in the winter? This is a major cause of rust on Canadian cars.

I always recommend getting rust-proofing done regularly and clean the car (including the undercarriage) regularly. This helps prevent rust, but won't fix it unfortunately.

It took a while but here are the photos. On the second photo the lip area that is glued/welded? on is circled. The other two photos on the bottom point out the problem areas.

This is a problem area for our cars, something that is just starting to come to light now that they are getting to be 3-4 years old.

I would highly suggest that anyone living in the salt belt or state/ province that receives snow or even if you keep your car outside, have a look at the area where the OP indicates and have oil treatment applied if necessary.

Follow the lining all the way down and under the door itself with a good flashlight.

What type of oil are you talking about?

You must be kidding. This isn't a mere surface defect that can be claybared away. This points to a bigger problem.

Also, anyone know if this can be reported to a government agency for investigation? I'd talk to Honda of America if their customer service wasn't such a joke. Also, the same for the stealerships.

I'm going to check this on my car as well. but honestly, it doesn't seem to be something very serious in my opinion (no flaming please).

I just checked my door and I'm seeing the same thing. I'm going to be bringing this to my dealerships attention when they replace my fog lamps because even though it seems minor; it doesn't seem right.

I'm surprised that I'm not seeing more posts on this.
My '07 has the same issue as described in OP and I wish that's all I had.
Unfortunately, I have a huge rust problem (paint bubbling up) under the rubber gasket right at the top of the corner (the 90 degree corner of the glass frame). And it's on both sides.
I already have 75K miles, so I doubt the rust warranty will cover it.
I'm hoping to fix it myself in the spring because every time I give my car to the body shop, something is F'd up when it comes back.

The rubber weatherstripping on the drivers side door (bottom inside) is deteriorating. Anyone else have this problem? and the rust thing i have it too but it's not as bad and it's the same as yours. Nothing to worry about unless it's really bad and bubbling.
