Fiji Blue Si no more... :( (possibly)

I just got into an accident with my Si. It may be no more. There was a huge iron plate sticking up out of the ground (kinda like a square manhole used to access something). i didn't see it becasue of leaves and branches on the ground and I rolled over it. It lifted the car and sent it crashing back to the ground and set off the airbags. The transmission casing was destroyed and all the gear oil poured out and the tranny seized stalling the engine. That's all the damage I know of now. I have to wait till the shop calls me with more bad news. My insurance says they will sue the city for the damage so I shouldn't have to pay a dime for it. I'm thinking they may total it out. I don't have any pics yet but I will try and post some. There doesn't appear to be much body damage besides a cosmetic scrape on the bumper but the undercarraige is a mess. There appears to be major damage underneath. I'll let you all know more when I find out more.

P.S. I wasn't hurt too bad. My arm is a bit swollen from the side airbag going off but that's about it.

Omg! I'm so sorry this happened. Glad you're ok.

It's good that the insurance company is going after the city. They should've, at the very least, had some orange cones around that paticular spot.

Thanks for the concern everyone. Ironically this happened on my way home from the Lexus test drive event. I was gushing over the IS350 I got to drive. Maybe this was the Si being jealous. LOL.
I laugh about it now cuz there isn't anything I can do but wait. I may cry later though.

What insurance company do you have? They sound badass, heh

I only ask because I was worried about potholes and road debris in the lot my school forces me to park in damaging my ride, and Allstate told me liability in situations like that is a "grey-area" and were about as helpful as a migrane, honestly.

Here's more strange info. While my car was being put on the tow truck, 2 Si's came rolling by. A NBP and a GG. It's like they knew and were paying their respects to a fallen brother. They didn't stop though.

Hmm...I have Allstate. I have a report from the cop who said he would testify on my behalf if the insurance tried to pull anything. he was a great guy. The officer stayed with me until my wife came to pick me up. He wrote in the report that it was not my fault. He left me his badge number and phone number at the precinct.

OMG Tim, Noooooooooo!!!! I'm glad that you are okay. I'm glad that the cop was cool and I'm glad that Allstate is going to work on your behalf. On a more positive note, if you use the money to buy a Lexus, I totally understand. :)

It happened in Roslyn, long island. That's probably why the response was so fast from the police.

I'm considering a few things if they total out the car:
1) I may order an new Si (Probably White with the HFP 18's and body kit)
or
2) G35 6MT coupe in Laser Red
or
3) IS350 in metallic gray (or whatever they call the color)

I'm leaning towards the G35 because you can't get the IS350 with a manual.

I dunno, i guess I'll see what happens in time.

Was this cop in a band with an indian and a construction worker?

I'm going to the repair shop today to hopefully get an idea of the extent of the damage. I'll keep you all updated.

I came back from the shop. The damage is not bad as I thought. The mechanic said it is a busted axle, bent tie rod and a dent in the floorboard. No tranny damage. He said he will call me after he gets a really good look at it. Phew....I'm relieved. I'll keep you all updated.
