the other day i installed a sub with my friend and after i tried to leave the d light started blinking and the check engine light came on, and it felt like it was stuck in a high gear, i have terrible acceleration and it wont shift itself, what could have happened and how much will this cost me to have it fixed?
So it happened immediately after your sub installation? Did you unplug any connectors and forget to plug them back in? What wires did you tap into?
I would recommend un-installing your sub, remove the negative battery cable for a few minutes, ensuring everything else is properly connected (if it had been previously disconnected), reconnecting the negative battery cable, allowing car to idle for about 10 minutes with no power draws on (radio, A/C, lights, etc.), and going from there.
Your flashing "D" light and illumination of the MIL means you have a DTC stored in the PCM which is related to the automatic transmission.
i installed the sub in the trunk, tapped into the rear speakers for the speaker level input, and i had to tap onto the tail light for the REM cable because i dont have an aftermarket deck,(always on daytime running lights tell it to turn on). we only disconected the battery for the install, i have the power line running from it to the trunk on the positive,
"Your flashing "D" light and illumination of the MIL means you have a DTC stored in the PCM which is related to the automatic transmission." i didnt really undestand this, whats MIL DTC and PCM?
MIL, or malfunction indicator lamp, is standard OBD-2 terminology for the "check engine light."
PCM, or powertrain control module, is the car's main "computer" on automatic transmission-equipped Hondas (it is called ECM, or engine control module, on manual transmission-equipped Hondas).
DTC, or diagnostic trouble code, is the "code" that is stored in the computer which you can have retrieved by your local AutoZone.
An illuminated MIL ("your check engine light is on") informs the driver that the ECM/ PCM has stored a DTC in its memory.
Is it possible that you shorted some wires in the process, possibly blowing a fuse?
ah, ok. so you would recommend unhooking the sub and taking off the negative battery connection for about 5 minutes, then reconnect it and start the car to idle for about 10 minutes without the radio on or ac/fan and lights etc. will this reset that code so it drives normally again?(assuming i didnt actually break my transmission somehow)
Logic dictates that if said problem did not exist before the installation of your sub, but said problem exists after the installation of your sub, then two possible scenarios exist:
1. The sub installation caused the problem.
2. It is pure coincidence and there is another cause.
Since you don't have the ability to diagnose an exact cause if it is other than the sub, it is in your best interest to hope #1 caused the problem and work from there. So, un-install the sub completely.
oh, one other important thing that i forgot to mention, when i shift it into drive it really jerks into gear, the whole car shakes and its really rough, like if you were to put it in park when rolling before your completely stopped.
edit: not sure if this is due to the inability to shift or something else.
