almost had a car accident! i heard BIG BANG from my car!

ok i was driving about 60km/hr on local. all of sudden, the car in front me stopped hard in the middle of the road when there was no car in front of him. i have NO idea why he did that. maybe he wanted to change the lane or whatever. i tried to brake but i couldn't make it, i was about to crash his ass but somehow i managed myself to turn my wheel to the left going over the yellow line. thank god! there was no car coming on the other lane, otherwise i wouldn't be here writing this. anyways when i braked my car so hard, i heard a BIG BANG from my car as if i crashed something. but i walked out and i did not hit anything. i don't know where the big bang sound came from. any idea? if its gonna hurt my car ? it felt like the engine was going to drop or seomthing when i heard the big bang.

drive safe everyone!

Check your trunk, if there is anything in it with any weight it will slam forward in a situation like yours. If there is nothing in the trunk, hopefully you figure it.

I'd go with what rdss suggested - check for any loose cargo.

glad you're alright. did you go out and slap the other driver for not knowing how to drive?
only thing i can think of would be something in the trunk. you said there was absolutely nothing you coulda hit? no dents, or anything? hope the car keeps driving the same.

i think it's the ABS. when i did my advanced driving course we had to invoke the ABS really hard many times, and in the right conditions it will make a VERY loud BANG noise. (i complained about this happening in my car in one of the ABS threads.) i put it down to an over-enthusiastic ABS system and poor sound insulation :)

the bang noise actually surprised the driving instructor as well, which says something given how many cars they sit in every day...

On lowered cars sometimes under hard braking the front suspension will make a loud popping noise. I've never heard of it happening to stock suspension cars, but I would assume it's still possible.

the funny thing is that he had no idea what he did and he just drove away like NOTHING happened. but the cars behind me saw it all!! what a bastard. i really wanted to walk out my car and b!tch slap his face. u know how bad drviers are, they think that they are the only driver on the road.

yeah and there was nothing i could possibly hit on the road. it happened last night so it was dark when i checked my car. i couldn't really see things. i checked my car again this morning, the body, under the car, everything seems ok. it also drives ok. so maybe it's just the ABS thing chylld talks about. Thank you guys for your replies!
