Thanks for sharing. I haven't taken the time to read my Honda novel (owner's manual) yet so I've just let my thingy dangle in the wind. Now I can safely insert it in the slot.

To all fellow idiots, I've had my EX Coupe for 6 months and 15,000 miles and didn't have a clue about the dang gas-cap holder. Maybe I'm a genius and it was just too simple and obvious for my complex mind. Yeah, that's it.

haha, I never bothered to take notice of it. Good post- should prove useful during my next visit to the gas station.

I should try the next time I fill up my gas. I usually just let it dangle. Never bothered me.

Mine has a sticker

I bought an '07 Civic LX in the beginning of November '06 and apparently Honda has caught wind that people don't know where to put the gas cap. They now have a sticker on the gas door that shows where to put the gas cap.

BTW, for those people who cannot get it to stay, make sure to line up the first slot on the gas cap with the little grooves in the gas door. Doing it any other way will have the gas cap falling out of the slots.

Apparently, my memory is getting worse. I checked for the sticker and there isn't one. I swear I remember something being there near the gas cap, because I wouldn't have figured out the little thing on my own and I haven't cracked the manual except to determine what the stereo can do. I think there was a little paper tag on the gas tube or on the gas door. I would've definitely thrown that away.

Actually, for many people, this IS their first car or their first Honda.

It took me about a week to notice it. I have an '03 EX before I got the '06 Si and the cap holder was huge. I looked for it the first time I filled it up and didnt see it so I just said **** it. Then I was looking through the owners manual and saw it in there. Another reason people should read their manuals.

I have another tip where to put the cap. I don't know how it is in other states, but in New York, the tip in the handle of the pump is broken off, so that you can't automatically fill up the gas, you actually have to stand and hold the pump. What we do is insert the cap inside the handle and wait in the car till it fills up. So there you go, another tip where to put your impossible caps, although not as designed by the manufaturer, but still useful. If anyone doesn't get my explanation, I will gladly explain it in detail, draw a diagram perhaps.

I guess I sorta' had it "1/2-way figured out", 'cause until I saw this thread, I was hanging the gas cap by it's tether cord, using the little "slot". BWAHAHAHA!!

Thanx 8thgen.com!

I noticed the holder right away but can understand why some didn't since it's unmarked. I didn't know my right armrest slid forward for about 6 months though! My Pilot has a short plastic string with a ball at the end that goes into a slot on the gas door. Took a couple of days to figure that one out.
Another thing about the gas cap is that the gas door freezes closed to where the button inside doesn't pop it open. What I do is just hit the door once or twice (like the Fonz) then push the button again.
