Anyone else experience nasty gastank slap front to back?

Often when coming to a stop there is very noticeable gastank "slap" (that's when the liquid fuel in the tank sloshes around enough to slightly shake the car and make a thump sound).

Anyone else have this annoyance?

Yeah. My Del Sol did it. Both of my Alfas did it. Bad! I notice randomly in other cars.

Yep, happens to me. I have an EX Coupe. But only when the gas it at 3/4 or above.

It did it on my 02 civic as well.

and my parent's altima.

I think it's normal.

I have noticed it happens more when I stop in my driveway which is on a slight incline.

You think they would have put baffles in the tank to prevent this.

I guess they try to save $$ wherever they can.

Sorry, mine's an '06 EX sedan. Probably should have mentioned that earlier. I get it easily from near full to below half a tank. It just gets quieter and less forceful when there's less fuel in the tank but still there. Yeah, why they didn't baffle it better I dunno. Definitely would help.

I laugh at ricers.

The sloshing is called free surface effect. How "noticable" it is depends on geometry of the gas tank as well as actual liquid volume:total liquid volume ratio. Obviously, the less gas you have the more that the gas will slosh. As an engineer, reducing the sloshing effect isn't as easy as you think.

I don't brake hard, but I appreciate the suggestion =)
It feels sorta like if you place a water jug on an uneven surface and move the entire surface a bit such that the water in the jug causes the jug to rock back and forth a bit. I wonder if perhaps the gastank isn't bolted in as tightly as it should be. That is what the tankslap feels like - like the tank is slightly loose and rocking just a little bit back and forth from the effect of the gasoline sloshing inside a bit.

I just noticed the gas slosh thing today. I thought it was a loose muffler until I investigated further. I cant believe it took me this long to notice. I have 1500 mikes on my GG 08 SI. It is possible for your tank to get loose. If it sounds excessive you should put it on a lift and check it out.
