Do you turn on recirculate mode when parked?

Do you turn on your recirculate mode button when you park your car? Someone mentioned that this keeps air and dust out of the ventilation system while the car is off and the fan is not running, but to make sure to blow in outside air occasionally so that it doesn't get moldy.

Didn't the owners manual say something against using it ALL the time?

They say the fan should be on close to all the time, but to only use recirculate when needed, I thought. Or maybe that was "If you use recirculate too much, you'll fog the wnidows"...

I think leaving it on helps the car warm up or cool down faster, but I really only use it if I'm driving behind like a 30 year old Mack truck and don't want desiel fumes blown into my face, and I always turn it off afterwards. Never really thought about it sitting in parking lot, but I've never really had any problems with just the regular A/C on sitting somewhere, so I don't know.

I forget most of the manual, I mean it wasn't really a page turner if you know what I mean. But I think it describes using it like i do, saying you should turn it off when outside conditions improve, etc.

leaving it in recirc mode for prolong period can...

-cause mold build up/Nasty smell in the duct
-headache/nausia

i always have mine in fresh air mode and tilt the roof(when moving) so that i really don't need to use the fan...it automatically forces air in.

only time i have it on recirc mode is when i'm trying to get the car COLD during a hot day...

Yes to CivicwithNav.

I do the exact same thing, but also, when I have the A/C on, I use recirculate to have less engine energy wasted, so it doesnt have to cool so much air.

But is it a good idea to turn the recirc mode on before turning the car off, so dust/bugs/whatever don't get into the ventilation system while parked? Or will leaving it on cause more mildew to generate?

yeah thats what i do too.
never really heard of keeping it on all the time, i find it fogs the windows... especially in the winter.

btw, have any of you guys ever noticed that when you use that top right button... looks like a windshield with air going through it...
with cold air, it's ALMOST as cold as A/C? during the summer, i used it and i never had to use A/C at all.

That button is for defrosting the windshield. Anytime the defroster for the windshield is on, the AC Compressor turns on automatically, to dry the air in the cabin.
