Snow Chains?

With winter rapidly approaching, what do people use in the snow? Snow chains? Cable chains? Spikes Spider?

Any recommendations would be greatly apprecitated.

BTW I have an EX with 17" Si wheels and 215/17-45 Avon M550 all season high performance tires on right now. Living in California, I only encounter snow occasionally, so getting full-time winter snow/ice tires isn't really practical.

Thanks

You might want to check if those are legal in your state. As far as I know, snow chains are illegal in many places since it kills the roads.

I'm going for the Nokian Hakkapeliitta for winter tires.. woo woo.

They are, if the state patrol and mountain patrol are telling people to use them going up a mountain.

I just use those "ghetto" regular chains. I've tried the more slick looking stuff, and they just spun out in snow on my RAV4.

I don't plan on driving up there in my car though...but it might be a good idea to stow some chains just in case anyway.

In California in the mountains, the highway patrol requires chains if conditions warrant them. If it's really bad, they won't let you continue without chains even if you have 4-wheel drive. So I guess they're legal here.
