Possible hydrolocked or something else not sure????

Well its been raing all night long and all this morning well I had to take the wifey to work and I was going thru my normal route when I see a puddle that covers both sides of the street but it looked low enough that I should have made it thru.... Well half way thru the car starts slowing down and shuddering and then it shuts off so I pull over and try to turn it on. I hear it trying but nuttin so after maybe a minute I try again n it turns on but starts shuddring again n then it shuts off so I turn it back on n it does so I limp it over to a parking lot and I just let it sit there (still on) for a minute.

I rev it a few times in neutral and everything sounds normal so I put it in gear to get out and as I am lifting my foot from the clutch so it can get to the catching point it starts to feel wierd not like it use to be yesterday but its moving forward.

Then at stop lights it starts idling wierd as well, it would b around 600rpm then jump up to 1000rpm n then drop back down to normal.

Now after I drop her off I deciede to accelerate faster then my normal way to see if acts funny so by then the wierd idling is gone and the car is driving normally but not really sure

also info on my car is its an 08 civic si has modified stock intake throttle body spacer k&n drop in filter and dropped on sportlines.

Oil life is also at 40% but I am going to change today just to be safe.

Any tips on what I can do to make sure my motor hasn't hydrolocked? Or what else could have happened? thanks

When changing your oil, it should give you some indication if you have water in your block.

I don't think it was hydro lock. If you drove it after you got water in the engine your connecting rod would bend and you would definently notice something wrong.
Actually I stand corrected. Thats only if you got a lot into the engine. A small amount could possible cause the things you were talking about it. I'd get a mechanic to look at it asap.

if you hydrolocked your engine, and you luckily did not blow the motor up ...

you want to do this:

#1. do not drive the car with the water in the oil
#2. drain the oil and water out of it immediately.
#3. change the filter and oil with new oil and filter.
#4. idle the engine for 5 minutes.
#5. drain the oil and filter again.
#6. put a new oil filter and add new oil.

Your lucky your motor even turned on at all.

^^ agreed, it could try and compress water that could have possibly been sucked up!

What should I look for? Never had this problem with any of my other cars so this is first. And what if there is water in my block what should I do then? If I have water in the block shouldn't the car be running all messed up cause right now the car is running normal should I change out my spark plugs?

Thats why i always play it safe when it comes to high water around the city.

Id rather sit and wait it out than have to go begging to the dealer to replace my engine.

I would just drive and hope for the best, one of the first things you would notice is rough running and bad gas milage. If anything does'nt sound right ..take it in.

And once get an oil change as soon as possible. That is where the water ends up.

If your car is running after the hydrolock event, it seems like you avoided catastrophe.

Get your oil changed ASAP, and keep a close eye on how your car is acting and go from there.

^ Sounds like a plan, and see how the car runs afterwards.

Yea thanks man you have been really helpful also I called a few places to see what oil change specials they have and one place has it regular oil for 14.99 plus filter so I was gonna use that for the first flush and fill and then run the car on that for the five minutes then flush that out and fill the car back up with full synthetic and a new filter is that kewl?

Should I check the spark plugs? or just go ahead and replace them as well? I am also going to buy a compression tester so I can test it this weekend
