Cool...So my engine seized tonight :(

This sucks...My engine seized on me tonight...I was pulling onto a road, and accelerating, and at around 4000RPM in first gear, a loud bang happened, followed by a metallic rattling sound and lots and lots of white smoke....now, engine wont turn over, and there is oil all over the bottom front part of the engine. Also, there is a crack on the driver side of the head...I've never seen a cracked head before ...

Got it towed to Honda with my honda plus roadside assistance, and I'm going to head to the dealership in the morning to see whats up...

My mechanic buddy figures I threw a connecting rod, or something and busted an oil gallery. All I know is that I should fall under the warranty....I paid for the 6years/100,000km extended warranty, and I'm at 88,000 km currently.

I'll post more info as I get it.

what are your mods?

very weird for a completley stock car to throw a rod or have a catastophic failure like that, especially at only 4k RPMs

Yeah it is a 2006 Si...I did do proper oil changes. The thing has had royal purple 5w30 in it for over 95% of the engines life. As for modifications, the only ones engine wise that I have are an AEM cold air intake (first gen, and oddly enough it has never given me problems...no cel or anything), and a magnaflow catback exhaust.

But yeah, I'm going to go talk to them right now and see whats up...They probably won't even be able to look at it for a few days though (and tomorrow is a national holiday up here).

warrenty might be voided. honda fights everything...and royal purple is not a API certified oil.
cold air intake is a good reason to void warrenty as well.

if they dont blame it on improper oil, they will blame it on hyrdolock. no, it does not have to be raining at the time to hydrolock. if water ever got into the engine, it could have slightly damaged the engine, eventually causing failure. <-happened to a friend. his engine was NOT paid for by HOA.

thats crappy.

thats what i was thinking though maybe water entered the engine somehow and over time destroyed the motor

Umm...Royal Purple is API certified...

As taken from RoyalPurple.com (Royal Purple Consumer Products "Royal Purple’s motor oils for passenger cars and trucks are API licensed."

Anyways, like I thought, they won't be able to look at it until Thursday at the earliest . It is going to be a stressful next few days.
