FG - Ripples above rear quarter glass?

Hello all,

I've got a FG2 ('07). I bought it brand spankin' new and it's never been wrecked. (55k miles) I've got ripples in the metal above the rear quarter glass (the triangle windows) that just started to form outta no where.

Does anyone else have this problem? I asked a bodyshop how much it'd be to fix it (and paint and clear) and they said $2200. I havent let them look at my car yet for structural rigidity, but that will happen this week.

I'm sorry if this is a repost, but I seem to be the only one with this problem. (if repost, mods please move it! Thanks!)

Anyone else with this issue PLEASE post here.

sorry for the crappy vids...the sun was soo freakin bright!

It's easier to see the ripples in person...I'll try to put some tape on it and try to define the ripples more......whenever I get some time to myself

That's called the "orange peel" effect. It's normal for most new cars today so it's nothing to be worried about. I have it all over my car.

my car is almost 3 years old....and just showed up. The ripples weren't there a month ago.

They arent in the paint, they are in the metal.

Edit: they look like waves....2-3 inches long.

I'd get it on a hoist and check for any evidence of the undercarriage for missing paint where it might have bottomed out...bad. Check the whole car for repair. Use a light strength fridge magnet and a piece of paper to go over the whole body to see if any repairs were done. New doesn't always mean new. New can be repaired too. Looks like a buckle. Severe body twist happen along the way some where. Improper jacking the car up at some point? Who knows. Not good. As stiff as these are, wonder if there is a point where stress will be relieved-----quarter panels maybe.

u got me lost on that one. The ripples are on both sides of the car....it's not a dent...u can tell a dent from a ripple. They are quite distinguishable

and as for the bottoming out and stuff - i've never abused my baby. I always take the long routes to places just to miss the potholes and bumps. I always use the correct lifts when working on my car and make sure that everything is supported.

Did you catch my last sentence? Lets hope we all don't end up with your situation.

Up here in Canada the Si is over $30 000 with taxes for new. People tend to lean on cars.

i have a 1989 CRX with no, i repeat, NO occurence of this. I've slammed it down 3.5" from stock with no problem, I've flexed the entire chassis on it and still no structural problem.

I havent done shiz to this car. It has all factory parts on it (minus Skunk2 camber arms and Helix TBS) so there's NO reason why this is happening.

It's not an issue that Honda can say "well our cars suck, so you are going to have to live with it" because they'll never say that.

Honda is going to have to figure out something because if it is a structural issue, then that compromises the safety of the car.

EDIT: btw i wasn't talking about the paint. Ripples in the metal are haarrdd to show in pics...especially with a mirrored finish on the car. I'm going to try to use painters tape to flatten out and show the ripples in the metal.

That sucks...first ppl having problems with roof dents around the sunroof area. I hope this isn't common. I do notice that the sheet metal on the hood is soft, cuz when I buff the car during waxing, I sometimes depress it accidentally. Same goes with the roof and trunk. But I don't push enough to dent it..knock on wood.
