Seems like the service guys and the mechanics are always trying to **** you over
Took my car in today after noticing a patch of black oil around the transmission area underneath.
I tell the service manager that they'll need to put a dye in to find the source. Service manager slyly smirks at my request. So the mechanic/service guy tells me to come in the shop and they explain that they cant find the leak. So i tell them that you'll have to use a dye to find the source. Then the mech tells me that an oil leak is common in the k series I'm backing up my side and the mechanic is trying his best to make up bull**** excuses about the problem. The whole time these 2 are trying to avoid the inevitable but i persist and eventually the mech tells me he'll put it in. Tells me to come back a week later. Its was sickening to hear the mechanic blatantly make up "facts" about my engine model to avoid doing warranty work. |

I replaced an R18A1 block with only 5,000 miles on it just last week. The R18A1 can be plagued with oil leaks from various places, including the cylinder block halves, the sealing bolt near the rear main seal, the rear main seal itself, in addition to the timing chain tensioner cover. On this particular block, the oil leak originated from the block halves. The owner brought his EX in for an oil change and I noticed that the entire underside of the engine/ trans/ subframe was coated with oil. It was his first oil change and no previous repairs on the vehicle. He got a new engine.
And yes, you are correct. You have to instill fluorescent dye in order to pinpoint the oil leak unless it's blatantly obvious. Find a new dealer that knows what they're doing and value their customers. Last edited by The Power of Dreams; 06-27-2009 at 08:33 PM. |

The leak isn't massive, but it is annoying. |
