Exclamation Wiper Blade Replacement!!!

Thanks to a certain moderator giving WRONG information about wiper blade replacements, I wasted 2 hours on this beautiful Sunday looking for "regular refill blades" that "you can buy at the WAL, or any auto parts store".

AFTERMARKET REGULAR REFILL BLADES DO NOT FIT THE 8th Gen. HONDA CIVIC!!!!!!!!!

ONLY OEM HONDA WIPER BLADE REFILLS FIT!!!!!!!!!!

Before I started my quest to replace my wipers, I did a search on this forum and read all the posts regarding windshield wiper replacements... and it seemed that the consensus was to measure the wiper blade length, and go to any auto parts store and buy regular blade refills. I measured the sedan's blades, and they are 26" driver side, 23" passenger side. The 23" blade is a rare size, and searching for this size is what took me 2 hours. I never found it, so I settled for a 24" that I was going to cut down to size. I tried to install the 26" refill first, and it didn't fit!!!! The aftermarket wiper blade looked very similiar to the OEM one I took off, but the bottom part that slides into the arm is thicker than the OEM one, and DID NOT FIT! The wiper blade is NOT A STANDARD size, and is a proprietary sized Honda part.

LESSON: EVERYONE, INCLUDING MODERATORS, NEEDS TO STOP POSTING EDUCATED GUESSES!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER, DON'T OPEN YOUR MOUTH. LET SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE ANSWER POST IT.

Yes, my tone is sarcastic and full of resentment & anger. No, I won't apologize. I won't ever get back the 2 hours I wasted looking for wiper blades due to the post with BAD information. I stopped posting on this forum a long time ago because I was tired of arguing with some of the resident idiots (esp. CivicWithNav), and there was so much BAD information on this site. To those of you who don't like my attitude, you can kiss my Civic's tailpipe because when I talk, I make a legitimate contribution to this forum with correct, verified information.

At the risk of getting flamed for making an "educated guess", I had a similar problem with a Nissan Maxima. The refills I purchased were too thick. I went to return them and noticed that, for some sizes of wiper blades, they have thinner versions. I bought the thinner one and it worked fine.

I haven't yet checked out the blades on the Civic yet (only 6K miles at this point, all of them summer) so I don't know if they are thinner than the thin wipers out there, but I hope this is a helpful post.

And I'm guessing your post is directed at this thread:

Wiper Blades Replacement

But it also has part numbers in there.

I also checked all your posts and no where were there any questions regarding this topic. If you weren't sure, then why not just ask?

sorry about that man, but I just can't believe that you have to go to the dealership to buy a wiper refill.

Yodums,

Maybe you should read my post carefully before firing an answer back at me. If you didn't like my tone, you certainly won't like it now. I read ALL of the posts regarding wiper blades. Yes moron, I know there are parts numbers for the OEM Honda wiper blade refills you can buy at the dealership. Yes, I know I could have gone to Honda to buy the parts, but isn't it obvious I went to buy aftermarket wiper blades as a cheaper alternative? Actually, I'm the moron for actually following advice given on this forum.

Also, I didn't need to ask questions to "make sure". The post I was referring to clearly stated (the moderator even added a for emphasis on how right he was) that regular refills from any auto parts store would work. When someone posts with that much confidence, I assume that person knows the answer for sure.

NoiseGoth,

The refills I purchased was the skinny thinner version. I took my wiper blades into the store so I could make sure they were similiar. I could tell that the thicker ones had no chance of fitting. The skinnier blade looked really close, but didn't fit.

did you not talk to the autoparts counterperson though?

i work at one and would be able to tell you 100% if we carried a listing or could get one for the 06 civic in about 30 seconds.

im not against you as i do agree with some parts of your post... im just saying....

I agree that an 8th Gen. Civic owner shouln't have to go to the dealership to buy a wiper refill. Unfortunately, we do. It seems as though Honda puposely made these wipers a Non-Standard size.

If you go to an auto parts store, and look in the guides that tell you what size/part number wiper blade to buy, there is no information regarding a 2006 Civic. Even the newer guides that have other 2007 model year cars didn't list anything for the 2006 Civic.

Also, I did ask the counterperson at Autozone, Advance Autoparts, Napa & Pep Boys. None of these places had a replacement part in their computer for a 2006 Civic Wiper Blade (or refill).

hmm. Quite a good read. I probably would have gone out to an auto store and looked for a set and bought the wrong kind.

Just out of curiosity, how much to the refills cost at the stealership?

I don't believe that honda specifically did it just to make a few extra bucks off wiper replacments. I think it was a situation where they weren't about to modify the winshield or the wiper configuration JUST to have a universal size wiper blade.

It's amazing the stupidity of engineers sometimes. On my old car you don't even wanna know where they put the ******* oil filter at. You couldn't get any tool up in there unless you had the car fully jacked up and were underneath it. I used to have to take sand paper, wedge my arm down in(cutting the shit out of my hand everytime) and twist the thing about 1/8th of an inch at a time. All because after the car was assembled(god i can't spell tonight) they said "oh shit, we forgot the oil filter. Tim find some spot to cram the oil filter in.

Dude, if you took a look at the wipers and looked at the aftermarket wipers, you'd know they won't fit. Cheaper alternative? The car is $20,000. Little blades should be the least of your conern. The price differences are not substantial for something as small as maitenance item.

People make mistakes, get over it already. You can't expect a cop to know everything about the law, nor can you expect a physicist to know everything about physics.

Okay, I want a physicist to know everything about physics. :) The cop should know the law but when they don't that means you can sometimes get away with a little more.

People do make mistakes. I would love to meet the person on here who is perfect but realistically there aren't any. Anywhere. Xenon, have you settled down yet? Silver8th did appologize. And calling people moron and the like really isn't neccessary.

Well, that clears that up. I appreciate you sharing your experience, as frustrating as it was for you. I guess us Gen8 owners are beholden to Honda for wipers until some enterprising aftermarket supplier answers the call to arms. Sucks to be us.

I'm not mad at Silver8th. That's why i purposely didn't say his name in my original post. I was just trying to make a point. The point is people should be more careful when they post. And yes, I wanted to convey my anger for wasting 2 hours of my time.

Yodums, after the comment above, I have all the right in the world to call you moron. I used the search function thoroughly, and that is what led me to buy aftermarket wiper blades. Your sarcasm was unwarrented, as I didn't say anything negative toward you. Then you post this....

Actually, the blades looked like VERY similiar, however they wouldn't fit. And again, I bought the blades because others said they should fit. And then you sneer at me for wanting a "cheaper alternative"? The price of a car has nothing to do with me wanting to maximize the value out of my money. Even with my six figure salary, I value the $6 I would have saved by not having to buy wiper blades at the dealership.

^ You just really made yourself seem like a bit of an ass just now. I fully understood your anger but is there really a need to post that you have a 6 figure salary? Congrats, it makes sense that you go to autozone to buy blades, who the hell doesnt? Besides someone who owns a benz or some high end car and it's leaed or something.

On a side note, i know the difference in the cost of living in Ohio as opposed to say, California. That said, if your makin 6 figures in cali, that' not much. In ohio, i'd certainly hope if your makin 6 figures that you'd have something a hair nicer then a civic.

Oh yea, that and my cock is way bigger then yours.
